No this is the opposite of that.

He has above average speed and can catch, just like our 3rd round TE.
Are you saying, wait, you can't be saying that. Do you mean...no, you can't possibly mean... are we actually gonna have...

Successful screen plays?

The Cards have been the worst team at executing the screen on offense, and defending it on defense, since I started following them.

They actually have had many bad drafts the past 8 years.

They also know how to work it in free agency. So, the draft picks that don't pan out are not devastating. That's also why they always have a bunch for extra picks. For contrast, it seems like we are always counting on 5 of our 7 picks to really make an impact.

Right now I am picturing a future base pro set.

Housler flexes to the slot so the safety can't double Fitz or they have a LB on him. Mid post over the middle.

Fitz curl's if the LB stays on the TE or outs if the safety moves to double.

Breaston crosses to add confusion.

Williams and Sherman delay to block the blitz. Whomever doesn't block releases into the flat.

Eh, I'm not worried too much about the pick. Sure, it puzzles me, but it's a 5th rounder. He was drafted because he's a special teams ace. That's it. I would have rather had Cannon, sure, but it's hard to bag on the team for going special teams in the 5th round.

Cannon won't play this year. He needs chemo this year and hopefully can play next year. Pats can afford to wait on him, Cards aren't in that position yet.

Anthony Sherman is a player I know a lot about. I saw him play all through high school---North Attleboro H.S. (MA). This kid is the ultimate gamer---he puts everything he has into winning football games. He does all the little stuff that doesn't show up on stat sheets, except for the number of special teams tackles he makes, which he is crazy good at.

He has good feet---and he thumps people.

It's a little soon to take a FB---but, imo, he's well worth it.

Anthony Sherman is Cardinal Tough.:newcards:

A strong, thickly put together lead blocker who has the initial burst to reach the line of scrimmage and quickly generate a real pop on contact. He does a nice job generating leverage for himself at the point, can stick to blocks through contact and does a nice job pumping his legs in order to eliminate his man. Plus, he possesses the type of body control to reach targets off his frame, break down in space and seal with confidence. Now, he is limited in what he can offer in many aspects of the offense. Isn't a real gifted runner and although he can catch the football out of the backfield, he isn't a real gifted run after the catch guy in that area. However, what he can do is play special teams. The guy is a demon in coverage units, plays hard, finds the football and loves the contact. He consistently comes up with big special teams tackles week in and week out and is a nice lunch pail guy to have on your team.

Impression: Isn't going to win any beauty contest for you, but he's a very good lead guy who can definitely make a special teams unit better. Is a fullback worthy of a draft pick and will make an NFL roster.

This is the Natl FB post. review

Plus, he hasn't fumbled in 2 years.

El lockout. He's gone or I am, it's either him or me, Cards aint big enough for the both of us. Plus, I feel like I bring more to the team.:p

He could've been cut before the lockout started and should've been.

We can't wait a year for a 5th round pick?

Bottom line:

Broughton is injury prone. Maui'a is better at running through walls than running through tacklers.

Our fullback situation is God awful. Our run production has been awful for years. Part of that is due to lack of talent at the fullback position.

I'm cool with this pick. Scouting reports are mixed, but it sounds like he is a hard worker, good special teams guy and willing to learn

A year or two. We did that last year with O'Brien so it's not like we won't but after a 5-11 season we need more immediate impact guys.
