I'm not a season ticket holder but wouldn't it be paying for 1 meanlingless game instead of 2. You don't get charged for away games...right.

DCR has to pay for all the games, not just the home games.

He don't get no respect. :D

Was there a majotr increase in injuries during week 15 and 16 when they went from a 14 game season to 16?

I dont think we will have more injuries but what you will see is shorter careers. Saw a RB has 1500 carries in him or 1000. You will burn through it faster year to year wise. So if I am the players rep that where I start the negotiations.

Unfortunately it is hard to find information online from the late '70's when they made the switch but as I posted earlier the Cards played 7 exhibition games in 1974 plus 14 regular season games plus one playoff game for a total of 22 games. If I remember correctly not one Cardinal starter missed the playoff game. But to be honest I don't know what the roster size was back then.

We've been playing 18 game schedules in the CFL for a very long time. There is, according to what I've read, no appreciable increase in injuries which can attributed to the schedule.

(The NFL is already playing 20 games, not counting playoffs, and we are talking about relatively 6 quarters of greater risk. (Given starters not playing in second half of game three of preseason, and all of 4th preseason game.)

As long as they aren't taking steriods then their bodies should hold up. :shades:

I'm OK with the idea as long as there is an extra bye week and the rosters are expanded to 60 or 62.

18 games for me the viewer and fan: Excellent!

18 games for the players: Not so much. Just the wear and tear on their bodies will mean that many more men who will need help getting up out of a chair before they're out of their 40's. Can't say I feel good about that.

To heck with those millionaires, think of the wear and tear on fantasy football players. Especially if they went to two bye weeks.

:D

6-12 wouldn't win the division over an 8-8 team in the division, even if the team went 6-0 in the division. Best overall record in the division is the priority.

The same would happen in a 16 game season.

Guess I'm not understanding his point then.

lol. I meant as a whole, but yes. I would have to pay for one less meaningless game. :)

No you can't. If you go 6-0 in division. And another team goes say 2-4 but goes 6-6 in the non division games they would be 8-8 and win the division with the best overall record.

8-10. Not so good with the math there chief ;)

So many threads that I got confused and thought this was the math correction thread. :D

Its the same number of games....just 2 that didnt usta count....now will.

Isn't the concern about the ones playing 2 more full games instead of a half or less in the 2 pre season games?

18 game season is insane. For anyone who has ever played football, and consider this is on the professional level, it is unacceptable if your an athlete in such a contact sport. Of course the owners in a fit of greed like the idea but what about the players???...what about a nosetackle playing 18 freaking games, and then if you get to the playoffs...what the hell are you gonna have left in the tank if you can still even move by the Superbowl if you survive it. Then we will have all those fake records being recorded for single season stats. NO THANK YOU

But the NFL moved from 12 games to 14 games to 16 games and did nothing but improve. College went from 9-10 games, mostly at night in the South to 12-13 games with 11:30 and 1:30 starts in the atrocious heat in September with no problems.

Well except for me giving up my season tix to UT games because I got spoiled sitting in the A/C at UoP and wouldn't pay to sit on those cramped aluminum benches in 98 degree heat at the Money Pit aka Royal Memorial Stadium anymore.

Well I was just watching the replay of patriots and rams. Randy Cross does color for the Patriots and he stated he remembered in 1978 when they went from 14 to 16 games they also went from 6 to 4 preseason games and he does not recall any significant spike in injuries. He thinks its a win win.

Also they talked about a two tiered training camp. First portion would be rookies, first and second year players. Second would be of course veterans.

I think the problem with expanding the rosters is that it doesn't address the real problem that I personally see, which is injuries to star players.

I see your point, but it could also give potential new stars a roster spot that never would have been available before. Who knows how many stars couldn't make a team and ended up bagging groceries at the Piggly Wiggly. I can think of at least one. :D

I like clif's reference to the schedule increases in the past from 12 to 14 to 16 games. It worked before, I think if they did it now we'd soon forget all about the old 16 game schedule.

They play 18 regular season games, and have for years, in the CFL.

And don't think for a moment that they're playing touch football up here.

We're not, in the end talking about an additional 8 quarters of football, but more like 6, given that starters usually play the first half of the third preseason game.

Exhibition schedule, 82 regular season, and a minimum of 16 playoff games for the Stanley Cup winner. Skating or full practice 6 days a week.
