Houston is really worrying right now, they are like the spurs really. In terms of they are very capable of playing both style of games, fast and slow. And win.

I thought Dallas would bring their A-game and just blow Rox out of the water, yet its Houston doing the killing. Hou/Dal Game 2 reminded me of the Suns vs Rox game, where they beat us in our own game.

I expect Mavs to atleast get a 1 or 2. But my prediction of them going all the way has been shot down considerably, since they dont actually play defense at all. I expected Avery Johnson to make this team a very well balanced team, yet they come off as a less offensive capable version of Suns, with similar defensive woes.... without a go to guy inside.

They look toast against Rox.... a sweep would be very dissapointing for Dallas as they had a good season. Atleast push this game to a 6 or 7.

Houston bothers me more, but Dallas would hardly be a pushover. Dampier would guard Stoudemire, and most likely do a pretty good job of it.

The only potential opponents that figure to let Stoudemire run rampant are Seattle and Sacramento. Everyone else has strong, athletic bigs that they can dump on him. It will up to the Suns' outside shooting to carry them through the later rounds.

See, I think Amare Stoudemire would love to see Erick Dampier tried to guard him. He could step outside and shoot over him all day long because there's no way Dampier could keep Amare from going to the basket if he came out as well.

I really don't think there's any team that could keep Amare Stoudemire from going nuts over a seven-game series.

Going into the playoffs I felt the Mavs to be a tougher matchup than the Rockets for the Suns. That being said, I think the Rockets are a tougher matchup for the Mavs because the Mavs are not really a running team. Dampier cannot physical Yao nor can he outquick him. Yao cannot defense Amare one on one as long as Amare makes Yao move around.

I expect a very interesting series.

Dallas just looks lost...

They simply have no answer to McGrady.

Sura scares me more than Barry. Barry has one good game every two weeks, but other than that he's a non-factor. Sura can hurt you in a lot of different ways. He's a surprisingly complete player.

When are you guys going to learn to listen to me? :p

he is what scares me the most - basically, we let teams hang around and then try and put the defensive clamp down in the last 5 minutes of a game - but his ability to basically do whatever he wants can negate that.

It should be a GREAT series - one that will land all of us in hospital by the end of a 10 year late Game 7 win at AWA.

wow - big comeback for the Mavs - that's good this series should at least go 6 now and if Houston wins, they won't be riding a huge wave of momentum that they likely would have had it been a sweep. Also good that these teams are gonna beat on each other a little longer - that's never a bad thing - especially if we can sweep or take our series in 5.

Absolutely. Fatigue is a big factor in the playoffs, for every team. If the Suns can be rested and play an opponent that had to go through a long battle, that has to help.

Jeez, except for late-game free-throw shooting. Choke-a-rama.

I'm soooo glad that the mavs won this one. For awhile I thought Rox dominated them and it looked like a sure win for the rox. I think the whole court pressure defense and too many minutes for Yao and Tmac wore the roxs down. And the Mavs in the 4th also became more patient on offense. So, let this series go to 7 games and let us finish off Memphis in 4 games! :D

Very nice win by the Mavs. Hopefully this series goes 7. Can you imagine if the Suns had an extra week of rest?

If both teams finish their series early, do they start the next round right away (more or less), or wait until the other series have caught up? For example, are the dates for the Finals already determined, to within a day or two?

(Chris, I realize that this question is not necessarily directly related to your post.)

I'm almost positive that the teams play each other when they're ready. So if we both finish early, we'll go right away.

Well since the NBA's advertising campaign is based on 40 games in 40 nights, my guess is that the series all begin at the same time.

But if every series goes 7 games that adds up to 56 games. 8x4=32

They can however control the #of nights until the finals start.

ESPN also does games - TNT is 40 games, 40 nights - but there are two other stations that carry the playoffs as well.

Each round starts at approximately the same tiem, give a day or two (max) I believe.

Now this series is getting more and more interesting. :D

1-2 Rocket.

If Mavs wins another one...

Good job. I would rather play with Mavs than Rocket.

I could've sworn in the past that there were a few teams with game 7's of the first round going on at the same time as the start of some other second round games.

Yes, I remember that too, but that's still only a couple of days difference. Theoretically, a team could be starting its next round while another series is on Game 5 or 6, but I don't recall ever seeing that. But I'm not sure, which is why I asked.
