Rod Wright, Texas 315LB Defensive Tackle, picked up a fumble and ran 67 yards for a TD against Oklahoma Saturday.

Could be the running back we've been looking for.

DT or LB are the 'needs' I think we have to look at in the draft. I really like AJ Hawk at LB and a couple of those big DT's for us.

Wright would be a solid pickup but the real stud at Texas is Frank Okam a Sophomore.

It's going to be an interesting draft trying to decide just who is the best player available for the Cardinals.

Unless Reggie Bush or Matt Lienart are avaliable when we pick, I think we go D in the first round. Ahmed Brooks - MLB is also another guy who looks good at this point. The more I think about it the more we need help at LB:

Dansby - Pro Bowl Potential.
Darling - Above averge.
Huff - Average - below average.
Hayes - Unproven.
Mitchell - Raw.
Blackstock - Raw.
Johnson - STer.

Out of the LB group we have one guy who can be or is great in Dansby. But other than that we have one above average guy in Darling to start with him. And even then Darling may not be back next year and he is getting older.

With such a group of LB's it's no wonder we have been struggling against the run.

I've been on upgrading the LB's for a long time. However in 2006 with Arrington at RB and Green not prone to drafting QB's and again looking at a high pick and LB's not being considered as good choices in the top 10 where would the Cards go? Another first round Tackle? Either side of the ball.

wright has never developed like I expected he would, still a good college player but he's a much better player on paper than he is on the field.

Okam is good that's for sure, Wright's career started out similarly but I think okam is better at the same stage. Seems to understand leverage a lot better than Wright does.

Brooks may not be in the draft, he's way behind schedule on his recovery from surgery, is reportedly 270 pounds, and came back, played one game, and then sat out again with another injury. I just read yesterday the coaches are fed up with him they think he's dogging his recovery to protect his draft status and they're trying to convince him that he's already SERIOUSLY damaged his draft status with the way he's handled the injury.

Great talent but the article I read said NFL people are already advising Brooks to stay in school.

I was jocking Wright earlier, but he just hasn't lived up. He pretty much dissapeared against Ohio St. Watson and Ngata would be good choices. I would love to get Vince Young.

Wow. I had no idea he was in such bad shape. I have seen him play a couple of times and thought he was going to be great. Thanks for the heads up.

AJ Hawk in the first!

Unfortunately, it looks like San Fransuckso will once again land the #1 pick, in this case trading it for 4 years worth of draft picks. So I am jumping off the oh so plush Leinart wagon and onto the Reggie Bush wagon. With Bush in our backfield, or anywhere else, any offense would be scary. Add to that a serious attempt at building a formidable OLine, a run stuffing DT and a coaching staff with a clue and we could be onto something.

Here is IMO BPA with Cardinals needs in my mind......

Matt Lienert
Reggie Bush
D' Brickshaw
Vince Young ( I am coming around on this guy after watching him more, better interview than i thought he would be too.)
AJ Hawk
Lawrence Maroney
Chris Leak
Brady Quinn (both of the last two are hit or miss but w/ exciting upside)
Erik Winston and Chad Greenway.

Wright and Ngata are un-inspiring with such a high pick.....

And Dale Robinson in the second........

I will kill myself if we select another tackle that high. I think this draft is pretty deep with linemen. You could pick up quality linemen in the later rounds to solidify LG.

Alot of these prospects could potentially help our team BUT we desperately need an O-line. So we have to draft some really good O-lineman somewhere.

That being said, who are the O-lineman that will be FA's this year? Anybody got a link for that?

I've Googled and Googled but I guess it's too early in the year for a 2006 free agent list. There are plenty of mock 2006 drafts, though.

That's what the problem will be if we have another high pick too many guys that could really help are not guys who theoretically should be taken with a high pick in the first.

That is if you discount Bush and Leinart as either not being guys the Cards would draft or not being available when they select.

Take these guys with Leinart, Bush, Ngata and Wright and rank them. Denny will be able to find a player that is a good choice for that draft position. Whatever it is. For instance, if Bush and Leinart are gone and we pick three, I say take Ferguson. Then Williams.

A.J. Hawk (OLB) Ohio State
Jimmy Williams (CB) Va. Tech
Omar Jacobs (QB) BGSU
D'Brickashaw Ferguson (OT) Vir.
Laurence Maroney (RB) Minn.
Marcedes Lewis (TE) UCLA
Drew Stanton (QB) Michigan St.
DeAngelo Williams (RB) Memphis
Marcus McNeill (OT) Auburn

If they get the number 1 pick again it's not a given that they will trade down to someone who wants Leinart. They desperately need playmakers on that offense. Barlow is at best average and they've only got 1 WR worth mentioning. They only really talented player they have is their TE. I could see them (or even another team without a QB need) taking Bush #1 overall. As the year winds down it'll be interesting to see which college players are rising and falling and which teams are heading for high draft picks.
