University of Arizona guy and one heck of a great weakside linebacker.

Dansby, Hayes, and Briggs would make up one nasty linebacking corp.

With the amount of cap space well have we better bring in many good players.

Do they have as much as us?

We could & should overpay to get this damn team over 500 for once in forever.

No but they will have enough to keep the good players. That's probably why we're extending our own players we finally figured out there's not going to be much talent on the market next year.

I thought that the Bears re-signed Lance Briggs to a new contract two years ago. Are you sure that he's going to be a free agent?

Agree that the cupboard is going to be bare so its a good idea to get our young players locked up> Docket is a good first step. Have you noticed how much better he is having someone like Clancy playing next to him?

I don't know he had 12 tackles against Seattle but since then he's got 6 in the last 3 games and 1 in the last 2 games. He was pretty quiet against KC but we defended the run pretty well so in that respect he does his job.

Briggs is a good player but I just can't see the Bears letting him go unless they have a ton of players wanting more money and just can't afford him.

It was reported in the Chicago Tribune that he turned down a contract that would have made him the second highest paid player on the team behind Urlacher and that he wants Urlacher money.

He is. I was laughed off of the board when I claimed that Dansby has more upside, but he is an above average player right now. One thing is clear, WSLB needs to be addressed with Huff a FA.

The 2007 plan (usually I wait until at least November to start thinking about the offseason):

In free agency the Cards have to address linebacker and corner deficiencies -- there are really no quality offensive linemen coming on the free agency market next year

That means as noted in the thread title -- get Lance Briggs at LB and Clements at CB. The Cards will have to throw some money around to get those guys

Then in the draft, the Cards have to emulate the JEts of 2006 -- Offensive tackle in round 1 -- either Joe thomas of Wisconsin or Sam Baker of USC (a Junior who probably will come out)

That leaves round two for a pretty decent center class -

Wow. It's amazing how often guys who do something like that end up regretting it.

I read today that Simms turned down a deal worth about 10 million to play this year in Tampa and take his chances on a much bigger deal. he sucked, got seriously hurt, and now may not even get an offer from them.

Jeremy green said on his chat today that most of the offer was deferred because Gruden doesn't like left handed QB's because it forces him to change so many things around for the lefty. I guess I just don't get that, I don't hear Dennis Green complaining about that with Matt?

I think that you are right on. However, like it or not Davis is the best OL free agent so we should resign him. Go for defenisive players in free agency and OL in the draft. We can get a good OT in round one and as you indicated get Best Available Center in round two. We got to build an offensive line around Leinart.

Denny may not even realize Matt is a lefty since he is always working with the scout team and second guessing his coaches after the games instead of during the week leading up to a game and during the actual game itself.

Then we better resign Davis AFTER we move him to guard!

We should immediately switch him to OG. First, that seems to be his best position, and as an OG, his contract value/demands would be less. Other teams, seeing that the Cards see him as an OG, would be inclined to view him the same way. And, at least, we'd have an idea whether he's worth offering a contract extension. If he is as good an OG as I think he'll be than we can always Franchise him. And if we play Wells or Gorin at LT, it's a less critical position for a left handed QB. JMO.

I don't think it would matter in a weak FA year for O linemen. Also when Franchising a player they don't consider what position one plays on the line - they group linemen together and there is a good chance LD's agent is considering a tag value.
