You all knew it was coming.

First post will be nothing but info on newer rules, the more misunderstood rules, and players that are not under contract next season.

Cap will be $109,000,000

Some new CBA rules and tender amounts (including a new 2nd round RFA tender and a few other new rules) -

RFA definition - Any Veteran player with three or more Accrued Seasons, but less than five Accrued Seasons (or less than four Accrued Seasons in any Capped Year), shall, at the expiration of his last Player Contract during such
period, become a Restricted Free Agent. Any such player shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any such player, subject to the restrictions of compansation and right of first refusal.

Accrued season definition -

For the purposes of calculating Accrued Seasons under this Agreement, a player shall receive one Accrued Season for each season during which he was on, or should have been on, full pay status for a total of six or more regular season games, but which, irrespective of the player’s pay status, shall not include games for which the player was on: (i) the Exempt Commissioner Permission List, (ii) the Reserve PUP List as a result of a nonfootball injury, or (iii) a Club’s Practice or Development Squad

RFA's with only 3 Accrued Seasons -

Highest RFA tender amount - $2,350,000 - Compensation - 1st & 3rd Rounder
1st rounder RFA tender amount - $1,850,000 - Compensation - 1st Rounder
2nd rounder RFA tender amount - $1,300,000 - Compensation - 2nd Rounder
Lowest RFA tender amount - $850,000 - Compensation - Round player was drafted in. If player wasnt drafted by the team giving the tender then all they get is the right of first refusal.

All of those amounts could be higher as the tender is those amounts or 110% of prior years salary which every is higher.

EFA's with less then 3 Accrued Seasons -

Tender amount - minimum yearly salary

Minimum Yearly salaries for the the 2007 season are as follows -

Zero Accrued Seasons - 285K
One Accrued Seasons - 360K
Two Accrued Seasons - 435K

See the next post for the Spreadsheet, (if you dont see it yet, it means I am still putting it up as you read this.)

Now, no one can ever be 100% correct, especially when it comes to cap economics.

So if you think you see an error let me know and I will look into it.

Joe, you are my hero. There are so many guys who have the biggest numbers that might not even be with the team when it is all said and done (Pace, Ross, Johnson).

Thanks Joe. I was thinking of this today. :)

I also found this, via Philly Daily News;

Alex Marvez, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, compiled a list of the projected '07 cap space for the NFL's 32 clubs. The Eagles are 25th on the list, just $12.4 million under the league's '07 cap of $109 million.

Nineteen of the league's teams will have at least $21 million in cap space. The San Francisco 49ers top the list with $42.1 million in projected space, followed by Buffalo ($39.7), Arizona ($36.7), Tennessee ($36.0) and Cleveland ($33.3).

The Cowboys are 19th on the list, with $21.5 million in projected space. The Giants are 21st with $15.7 million and the Redskins are 31st, ahead of only Pittsburgh, at $951,000. How will Dan Snyder ever get through the month of March?

Does Hayes' extension come into play next year or is he just set to make 600k and that's it?

We included all of his bonus onto the past season's cap. I think his salary does go up in future seasons, I'm not sure how much though.

Hayes was signed before the deadline in 2006 so we had the option of including his whole bonus as part of the 10.7 Mill capspace we had left in 2006. Which means for the life of his contract only his base salary will be included in cap calulations. For Dockett only part of his bonus was added to the 2006 remaining cap space and the other part will be spread out over the life of his contract.

This shows how UFA will be tougher for a new coach and especially the Cardinals. They may be in rebuilding mode and with everyone having huge caproom and no cap problems the players will not move as much and teams will sign there own. It shows how manageing the cap the way we have the last few years really was for naught. We have been able to extend our own guys with the cap space but if we want to truly get better fast on the defensive side of the ball we need players like the top FA Cb to want to come here and with this much money available we would be way down there list. We are after all the Cardinals. I would have rather spent on the one or two guys Graves said we weren't away and had them help us win 3 to 4 more games each of the last couple of years but as usual it is not about winning with the Bidwills and the Cardinals. Thanks for the Spreadsheet Joe. It is really great.

It may be less as I dont have a handle on Matts incentive for this
season.

I heard on the radio back in November that Leinart will be due a rather large bonus for meeting the number of games played incentive. Do incentive payments count against the cap in the year they are paid or earned?

I didn't see Monte Beisel on any of the lists. I assume he's a UFA. I thought he played well in repalcement of Hayes. Anyone know his status?

Are these the salaries and bonuses for the 2006 season, or what we're on the hook for for 2007? I'm sure you said it somewhere in your first couple posts; I just missed it.

I'd just like to reiterate that I, for one, am really appreciative of all the work that has to go into a project like this. Figuring the ramifications of all of these contracts and everything, even with some history and inside sources, has to take up a ton of time.

THE LIST OF OUR UFA's -

Tate, Robert CB
Macklin, David CB
Liwienski, Chris G
Darling, James MLB
Huff, Orlando OLB
Griffith, Robert FS
Shipp, Marcel RB
Milligan, Hanik S
Davis, Leonard T
Wakefield, Fred TE
Walters, Troy WR
Brewer, Jack S

Of these guys, I really hope that Rod takes some initiative and retains Macklin, Griffith, Milligan and either Biesel or Darling. Who knows how bad Darling's injury actually was, but it would be a poor decision to go into free agency with a new coach who may not be hired until early February and a large portion of your training camp roster to hire. Macklin deserves the opportunity to compete for the starting job again, and Griffith made a lot of plays for this team. We need help at backup linebacker, and Darling or Beisel present good depth at the position.

It goes without saying that Leonard Davis needs the Franchise tag affixed to him. We'll have plenty of opportunity to negotiate with other FA OTs and players even if we "only" have $28 million under the cap.

Any way we can see years left for players like Ross that it may be interesting to consider the $ is still well spent, or getting to where players may be released for cap savings. We have SEVERAL spots they will try to address (OT, OG, OLB, CB and FS).
