Mods can you please delete this thread? It very annoying that people are talking about the draft before the Cards have even played their 8th game and are actually only a game out of 1st place.

Then I guess with that reasoning you are annoyed that our scouts are scouting these kids right now.

No one is talking about were we will select they are only talking about prospects that are currently playing in a college football season right NOW.

What is wrong with talking about college prospects that are playing a season right now. I guess we should all wait until the draft guides come out to tell us what to think.

Hmm, not sure what you are saying? I guess you don't think this thread should be deleted? I can't say for sure.

If you ain't interested in the thread, don't read it. :doi:

It's not like there are 75 draft threads going like there were for "Rackers sucks."

Exactly, JJ gained 2000 yards in college you don't see me arguing that he'd be great in the NFL if the Cards just used him right. It's been weeks since I said soemthing like that.

I agree with Joe. I like to watch the college games to see the nfl prospects who are playing. There's no way I have time to keep up with which college players are nfl prospects and threads like this give me some guys to watch on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Thomas, from USC, is a better prospect than Cason, imo. He's bigger and faster. Malcolm Jenkins,if he comes out is probably the best prospect. Shogun, how good is Calais Campbell from Miami. He's got tremendous size and numbers. Can he play a 3-4 DE.
Campbell has no business whatsoever in a 3-4. He's a pure 43 end. I like him and he has a mountain of potential, but he's been average this year despite all the attention that the opposing teams give him. He has the ability to fight through that, but he has a limited moveset, average technique and plays too high - yes, I know he's around 6-7. He isn't even been the best end on the 'Canes right now. I thought this would be the year he'd polish his act, but apparently it's not the case.

I think Chris Long from Virginia is the better DE, but I think he'll end up a 43 end also.

Yeah we should be talking about Chris Long. Dude is an animal. Knows what it will take to succeed in the NFL having learned from his father Howie Long.

Smarts, Technique, Strength, best hands I have seen from a DE in a long time, production, good kid, hard worker, balls out every play, good against run and Pass, leadership(2nd year in a row he was voted as the team captian). Versitle - he has played some UT roles in the 4-3 depending on the D package at Virginia. I think he can play as a DE in a attacking 3-4 style such as Wade Phillips or Clancys(like Dockett or Smith currently plays), 4-3 DE, or even 4-3 UT in a Tampa 2 style. As a traditional stout 3-4 DE probably not.

As a DE he has the 2nd most tackles(55) on his team only being beat out by a LB. Has 11 Sacks(1 for a safety), 14 Tackles for loss, 1 int for 25 yards(great play caught the ball right out of the air while playing DL only 5 yards away from the QB), 1 FF, 1 Blocked Kick, 7 passes batted down, and 18 QB hurries. Leads the team in sacks(next highest player is only at 4), TFL(next highest player is only at 7), QB hurries(next highest player is only at 14), and even has more passes defensed then any one their DB's. All of that while being the only DL on the team that other teams concentrate on, double, triple teams galore.

From his bio -

Third in the country in sacks with an average of 1.22/g
11 sacks this season which are more than 15 TEAMS (and the same as eight other teams)
Second in the country among defensive linemen in pass break ups (PBU) with seven
Second in the country among defensive linemen in passes defended (PBU+INTs) with eight
Seventh nationally in tackling by a linemen, averaging 6.11 tackles per game
Nearly 30 percent of his tackles (.290 to be exact) this season have been for a loss (his career rate is 25 percent)
Dominating presence on the nation's No. 22 defense against the run

2006–Had a tremendous campaign ... second-team All-ACC ... team captain ... fourth on the team with 57 tackles despite being double-teamed on virtually every play ... finished fourth among ACC defensive linemen with 4.8 tackles per game ... was in on five sacks (4 solo, 1 assist) ... led the team with 12 tackles for loss and 21 QB pressures ... helped UVa finish 17th nationally in overall defense, allowing just 289.5 yards per game, the lowest by a Cavalier defense since 1979

2005–Had a very productive season in his first year as a starter ... started every game ... got better by being matched up against All-American D’Brickashaw Ferguson during training camp and practice ... second among the team’s defensive linemen in tackling with an average of 3.8 tpg ... made 10 tackles for loss, nearly a quarter of his tackles ... had at least four tackles on six occasions ... 26 quarterback hurries were by far the most on the team ... shared the team lead with Marcus Hamilton with seven pass break ups

Plus he's Howie's kid so you know the old man taught him some tricks. Could be the most NFL ready player in the draft, but will be long gone by the time we pick in the late teens.

Guys I am watching for the DE/OLB spot:

1. Quentin Groves, Auburn. Likely a top 10 kinda guy, but one never knows
2. Shawn Crable, Michigan. UM linebackers tend to be pretty good pros
3. Vernon Gholston, Ohio St. Havent seen him play yet, but the reviews are great.
4. Tommy Blake, TCU. On the field, everything you want. Missed the first half of the season with what has been described as an anxiety issue. Hmmm.

After yesterdays games McFadden will be first or second player selected.

However, right now Miami and St. Louis are 1 & 2. They have Ronnie Brown and Steven Jackson. That probably means one will trade down.

I don't think so. Miami badly needs a QB and would take Ryan or Brohm. The Rams defense is horrendous and could really use a player like Dorsey.

You don't think somebody would be willing to trade up to get McFadden? Two teams that come to mind would be the Bears how have just about had it with Benson and Oakland.

Of course teams would be willing to trade up for McFadden but in order to do that they need teams to be willing to trade down.

Trading up in the top 5 is rare and far in between. Way to much to give up and pay for a single player. There will be lots of talk but 99% chance it will never happen.

I think the Dolphins are content with their QB situation with John Beck, their second rounder from last year. I think they'll go defense as well.

I think Darren McFadden will slide not because of talent, becaus of lack of need by some of the lotto teams.

I <3 Gholston. If he declares, he's going to rocket up the boards because he's totally physically gifted and gets to the QB VERY well.

Groves, Auburn
Gholston, OSU
Cushing, USC
Crable, MU

Tommy Blake will probably get the Rod Wright treatment unless he can prove otherwise in his interviews because "anxiety" issue set off several red flags for teams. Why would a team draft you if you fold when it's crunchtime?

There are a lot of teams, San Diego especially, that have just about had it with Oakland.

The Dolphins are the new Cardinals. They suck at almost every position. Brown isn't an elite back but can help them win plenty of games. Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor can still play but are getting old. They look like us pre-Green.
