I paid nearly 2 grand in student loan interest this year.. I didn't get it all back.. Apparently that didn't work for me

I thought student loan interest was a tax deduction (line 33 of 1040) not a tax credit.

Thank God for my kid. I have a mortage, kid, student loan, claiming 1, and I'm still only getting back $600. The last 4 years I had to pay though so my kid really helped me out.

Yup. I filed online about a week ago, maybe less.

I did mine online 2 weekends ago. I got my federal today and my AZ return two days ago. The feds process returns once a week on Friday. With about $3,500 in credit cards, a new dryer and deep freezer, the money goes quick.

Usually whatever program you used to file your fed will have state as well; almost always for a fee.

I just did my taxes today. I'm getting back $825 federal and $16 state. I think I'll use my federal return to finally get a HDTV and use my state return to get a pizza to eat while watching my new TV.

I havent done my taxes yet.. Im one of those late folks.. But if I dont owe money, which I dont know why I would since they took a grip out (I file for a big amount so as not to owe), I'll just put it into savings along with all my other money.. I have nothing I really want.. I buy beer on my days off, thats about all I want..
