I went to the game last night. Boy, was that painful to sit through! If they have many more of those performances, it will be a long season.

Yea... Kennedy can be so frustrating to watch at times. He goes from incredibly good - almost great, to incredibly bad quicker than I anyone I can ever remember.

I am going too! I just hope all the stupid downtown construction is done by then. Traffic is ridiculous right now! All we need is the a national media mocking our city for how unprepared were were to host.
What construction are you referring to? The only major construction going on right now is of the Hotel Palomar at CityScape and some new buildings over at the Bio Medical campus which is fairly far from Chase Field.
None of that should really be effecting traffic in any way.
By the by, avoid "traffic" (though Downtown PHX has far too little traffic both pedestrian and auto compared to most major US urban cores) and take the train to the game, its easier, cheaper and greener

Nice win today as the Diamondbacks won 6-5 in 12. The win went to Josh Collmenter, who made his major league debut by going two innings and allowing no hits. The Giants last hit was in the 7h inning.

JJ Putz is also looking quite dominant thus far! The D-Backs pitchers racked up 14 K's, while the the D-Backs hitters only struck out 5 times... I don't believe I have ever this team experience such a margin... ever! Could be a very good sign for what lies ahead...
I definitely am happy with the direction we're going. And one thing I was going to mention about Putz, it's nice to have a closer who can actually pitch in a non-closing situation and for more than an inning. Awesome. And I hope what Collmenter showed us is a sign of things to come for him...that was very impressive.

I work at the Capitol. Trying to get to the field from 19th avenue and Jefferson should be a five minute drive. But all the construction just west of the stadium makes this short commute extremely maddening. The cityscape construction has spilled out onto Jefferson and they seem to be doing alot of road work on both Washington and Jefferson west of the stadium. I can only imagine what a pain it would be for people who are not familiar with downtown.

Now if only Joe Borowski would learn to pronounce Putz's name correctly on the pre-game show.
But then, his Bayonne, NJ, accent is tough enough to take anyway.
When I arrived in the Valley for good thirty-three years ago, the biggest compliment I received was, "You don't sound like you are from New Jersey." And I said, "Thank you!"
I couldn't understand as a kid how my neighbors pronounced "girl" as "goil", but "oil" as "erl". Where was it written in Joisey that words were meant to be pronounced exactly the opposite?
Putz pronounces his name as in "puts the book down", not as in "he has a lot of guts".
Unless, of course, he starts screwing up as our closer. then he'll be Putz as in "guts". But I don't expect that to happen.
For those who don't know, putz (rhyming with guts) means the same as schmuck. He should have changed his name to Peters. No wait, that's another story.
OK, back to baseball.
Ryan Roberts did it again. Tied to team lead in HR's in half the AB's and is hitting .382. If Gibson takes him out of the lineup, then nothing has changed and the management is still setting the lineup.

Roberts and Willie Bloomquist -- a legitimate leadoff hitter. Gibson doesn't have to make any announcement (in case either of them stops hitting).
Just put them in the starting lineup and leave them there. He can do his micro-managing at 1B. Make it permanent at 3B and LF and leave them alone.
Right! The Front Office provides the players. The Field Manager decides how to use them. The FO wouldn't dare incur the wrath of the fans and the disrespect of the league and future players if he tells them that and they try to pull a power play.bankybruce said:

Roberts -- 2 HR's in 3 AB's plus a walk and a stolen base. And some nifty plays at 3B. If anyone knocks him out of the starting lineup, it would have to be due to bribery. Same with Bloomquist.

Diamondbacks win game 2 against the Reds 3-1. Drew and Roberts had big hits and the pitching came up big. Nice outting by Kennedy and I like the Hernandez and Putz combo in the 8th & 9th.

Even though we struck out nine times (two by Johnson, who is struggling, and two by Branyan, who is a free swinger), we didn't look like the D'backs of the past few seasons who swung from the heels up and down the lineup. Even in Cincinnati, where it is tempting.

It's shocking the difference you see in Hudson from the first inning and afterwards. If you take out the 1st, the guy is one of the best #2 pitchers in the league right now. He really needs to learn how to start the game better and not put us in a hole from the get-go.
Edit: Sometimes I really miss Chris Snyder...his defense when Montero is in and his hitting when the worst play in the majors gets the start.

That was just pathetic. Gonzo basically called the shot after he saw that Vasquez wouldn't throw anything but fastballs to lefties.

Very nice bounce back after the crap in NY... Young and Upton are still incredibly frustrating to watch at the plate. But, the team is finding ways to win... Roberts just blowing up in April! Hope he can ride this roll for the season!!
Very strange.
The Phillies had no offense in the first game. They looked tired. And Kennedy gets all the props. What a great game for him.
Today? I don't know. It's almost like the Phillies figured they could take it easy in this series. Gotta give the D'Backs credit though for rallying after that sweep. Just wish it was against any other team in the league but the Phils.
