I would try to trade CY, see if that improves anything, and give JUp till the offseason. No sense in trading him now. Perhaps separating him from CY will help.

I don't agree for a couple of reasons:

1. Trading CY will probably upset Upton to the point where he will want to be traded and his play and attitude may become worse in order to force a trade.

2. Teams usually give up more for a player at the trade deadline than in the offseason because they feel the player can help them in the playoffs.

If you trade Upton do it now for one big reason, clear cap space because it looks like Josh Hamilton is going to reach free agency. Trade CY to clear up more room. Imagine Josh Hamilton hitting between Kubel & Goldschmidt. If ARZ can get a SS, 3B & SP for Upton then pull the trigger. Getting rid of CY would just be a bonus.

No way a small market club gets Hamilton. If he doesn't go to the Yankees you better watch for flying pigs. I agree with your logic though. There will probably be a second tier free agent like Kubel available.

I don't think separating Upton and Young would have that kind of effect. I'm sure he would miss him but to go onto a worse funk than he is in now, don't think it would happen.

We just got swept by the freakin' Cubs!!! Swept at home earlier by the Padres!!!! WOW!!! There is nothing we can do here this season. Trade anyone and all of 'em. Who cares. So much excitement to end last year on and to start this season with only to have a team that completely under performs and disappoints. This division was ours for the taking and we can't even play .500 ball. Disgusted!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares what effect it would have. They are BOTH clearly under performing.

This team needs an enema.

Upton had a 3 for 4 day, which makes him 3 for 12 since the All Star break (.250). He desperately needs to string together some games like today. Perhaps dropping him down in the order will help facilitate that, but pardon me if I don't hold my breath.

8 runs in 5 games. 5 of which came in 3 innings.

That is all....

There is no refuting the fact that this team is simply not good enough - offensively... Of course, given the year Kennedy is having, along with some early indications that suggest Bauer is clearly not ready for prime time just yet, the starting pitching has been less that good enough as well. But, by far the biggest issue with this team is the crappy and inconsistent performance at the plate. Last night was a perfect example of what we've been doing all year... This time, we got shut out while leaving 19 runners on base... 19!!! I would love to see a stat that shows the delta between runs scored and runners left on base per game. I gotta believe the D-Backs rank at the very top of that list.

We continue to get squat from 3rd base. It's as if the position is there only for defense.
Upton has entirely forgot how to hit a home run.
Young is a complete waste and it never ceases to amaze me that he is still with this team.
I have no clue what drugs Goldy was on last night... His at-bats last night were probably the worst series of at bats I have ever seen him have!

I guess you can down the whole line-up and call out guys. The bottom line really is that this collection of players can't come together and play as a team. They can't pick each other up and cover for another guy or two who might be struggling.
Could be coaching... could be chemistry... and it could be a combination of all of the above... either way, this team is going nowhere as it is currently configured. Dramatic changes are required. Some might not be popular, but they need to be made... like NOW!

Could be coaching...
Buck Showalter was gone because of his micro-managing (players' socks).

Bob Brenly was also gone because of his micro-managing (Spring Training lineups all year long).

Bob Melvin was also gone because of his micro-managing (same reason as Brenly).

Kirk Gibson is micro-managing worse than either of the Bob's. How long before it catches up with him?

Gibson got lots of credit last year for taking a rag tag group and winning the division. Why does he get a free pass now that the entire group is in a funk and under performing horribly?

Kubel back in the line up tonight and in his first at-bat, bangs out a 2 run homer... What a year he's having!

He doesn't get a free pass. Gibby was NL Manager of the Year last season, just as Bob Melvin was four years earlier. Melvin was exiled. It is just a matter of time until the D'backs front office stops listening to the Manager's spins after most games, if they haven't already. Kendricks has shown that he has a short fuse.

As I mentioned in a previous post, it's coming, guys. The question is whether the team will waste the season and bring in a new Manager at the start of Spring Training or make a mid-season move and have someone else running Gibson's (2012) team.

Gibson replaced A.J. Hinch two years and seventeen days ago on July 1st.

Is he changing the lineup more than he did last season? Maybe he received more credit than he deserved last year but I think the team will have to be in the cellar for him to lose his job.

Kubel now with a solo shot! His 2nd of the game!! Now with 17 HR's and 62 RBI's!!! Awesome!!!

You gotta give the front office an A+ for that move. Everybody in baseball was scratching their heads over the signing and he's been the bargain of the year.

Towers is known to be a guy who routinely pulls off these types of deals... You also can't leave out his pick-ups of Breslow and Ziegler... Of course, DiPoto was no slouch either...his trade of Haren to the Angels netted us Saunders, Corbin and Tyler Skaggs. Not too shabby... ;)
