Yep. I think the Suns should have been on that one. If he had signed that deal here, I would have been happy. Our FO seems to be waiting for something.

I have no other explanation.

Or they're happy with an "entertaining" team that competes for a playoff spot, and don't feel any strong need to try to move beyond that. Or they're just inept.
And acquisitions like Humpheries would show that isn't the case and they serious about winning?

Or they don't think paying ongodly amounts of money to the likes of Greg Monroe and Luol Deng is worth it. Or maybe they like the potential free agent class of 2015 better.

You're more cynical than usual today, Eric.

They're inept for what? Not overpaying someone you'd just complain about them overpaying anyway??

was traded from Bulls to Magic for 2 2nd rounders.

Ah, was reading earlier that he was getting released. Seems like he'd be an interesting pickup as a backup. He fits the McD mold of guys who have some talent but have been overlooked.

Yes. What's the point of cultivating Dragic as a SF, or Marcus Morris as a center? That's not the path to long-term success. Get players that allow the "keepers" on the roster to play at something resembling a natural position.

At this point the Suns have 96 C and PF minutes per game that they need to staff. There's no way they can come close to that without severe small ball. And if the whole point is to start rebuilding the credibility of the franchise, severe small ball is a huge mistake. I'd much rather see an overpaid, mediocre stopgap PF than playing Tucker in that position. And don't even get me started about the farce that is going to be the center rotation this season.

No-one is saying the Suns should stand pat. It just comes down to would you rather have Humphries on a 3 yr. / 13 million deal or have the dozens of other big guys that are comparable that can be had for a 1 year vet. min contract (It's not a "roll w/ what we have and have Tucker at PF" or "sign Humphries decision")? Just wait a little bit ... Once similar big guys realize no team wants to pay them 3-4 million / yr., they'll settle for less or maybe even the minimum. I'm sure the Suns have a list of big guys they are looking at and are just waiting until 1 of them will give in to a cheaper deal.

If the Suns sign Boozer, this place will go crazy bonkers with how lame he is.

He is lame. But probably the least lame of what we can get. If we sign him, we would have to keep him for a year. But who knows, McD turned Scola into Plumlee, Green, and Bogdan. That was worth it.

Last year he was 13.7/8.3 in 28 mins. That would make him the best rebounder on the team immediately.

The thing about picking up amnestied players is that the money obligation is usually so small, they are easy to trade after a year.

That's just stupid.
Is Boozer the best PF available?
Can the Suns get him at a decent price?
Is he better than what they have?

Happy with "entertaining" is what would annoy me the most.

He averaged 14/8 last year in under 30 mins.

http://www.chicagonow.com/chicago-b...os-boozer-as-one-of-the-worst-players-in-nba/

Carlos Boozer is really, really bad

He ranks 79th out of 89 PFs in the survey with a -3.79, and I doubt that surprises anyone. What's shocking about this number is that it's made up of a -3.74 on offense and a -.05 on defense.

Now it's probably fair to note that if you are playing defense next to Joakim and Taj, both amongst the best defenders in the NBA then you'll look a bit worse on defense than you really are, but I can't truly believe that Boozer's defense is just a shade below average.

What I can believe is that his offense has been horrible this season. He no longer can score in isolation at all, though truth be told, he was never that good at it for Chicago anyway. He draws no fouls, hits no threes, and shoots mostly fade away jumpers at a pedestrian rate.

When Boozer can't score, he's dead weight on the floor because he sure isn't helping anyone defensively. That said, the Bulls need someone to chew up some minutes, and at least Boozer can do that better than Nazr Mohammed.

I'd like to see Boozer in the Suns uniform. He's not great, but he is hell of a lot better than anything they have at 4 and 5. At least he can grab some rebounds, and get the ball to one of the PGs for a fast break.
