call me when we get a qb and rb half as good romo and murray
My point is that Romo and Murray would not have looked elite without that awesome line they have. The Cards are trying to build an Oline like that. And that's fine by me.

Tomorrow is where the real meat and potatoes of this draft will be. Let's see who drops, who gets traded around, what slots get filled.

Vetty vetty intadesting.

You mean the qb with a 95+ career qb rating and the rb with 4.8 career YPA. sounds legit

I'd say Romo has been a top 10 QB for many years. So you're saying we can draft any 7th rd RB & plug him in for 1500 now? Lol :D

I'm sorry but talent trumps your average Joe anyday...the 2 go hand in hand my friend.

I hope there is a plan. Very disappointed by the pick. We have so many glaring holes. All teams can upgrade the on-line it's important but, he really the best player on the board at the number 24 slot?

Buchannon pick was easier to take since it was kind of a need and they got the extra third rounder in the trade down.

But it was a reach at the time. This is a value pick. Daniel Jeremiah had him as the best left tackle in the draft. I'm not saying his opinion means anything but I'm willing to give Keim the benefit of the doubt. What really irks me is that I thought for sure the Broncos were moving up for Humphries which, of course, makes a ton of sense. It almost feels like they did it out of spite.

I don't know. It might end up being a good pick to shore up the line but the Cards sure know how to make a 1st day seem very pedestrian.

Also Highlights of Humphries owning Dupree.

Saw this on ESPN page:

Chris Mortensen@mortreport
#AZPick OL DJ Humphries. Continue to build OL w/ Iupati addition in FA. Multiple executives pointed out UK game where he dominated Dupree

That seems to be a trait of good GMs. They're 2 steps ahead.

Yea, they don't make the exciting picks do they. Last year wasn't very exciting in Bucannon, but he turned out to be a decent pickup. So I hope I am saying this same thing about Humphries next year.

Mediocre QB? Don't think so. But you still gotta have a talented player with vision to run the rock & I don't think that guy is Dre on a regular basis.

Luv the player, not the pick given we needed other positions.
I know you're a bit of a homer living in Dallas and all :) but Romo didn't look like a great QB until he started getting elite pass blocking from his Oline. Also, I think and hope the Cards are going to get a big RB to complement Ellington so he won't have to be the guy carrying all the load like Murray.

The point is that the Cardinals are finally doing what what they should have done many years ago...fortifying their Oline.

I do respect your like the player hate the pick comment though. There were some other players that would have made sense available. I just like that when in doubt the Cards are finally making the Oline a priority lately.

Come the fall, I think the results will be plain to see for all of you guys downing the pick. I hope!

Funny. 3 of nfl.com's analysts had us taking Humphries. Others had him going much earlier. Only two had him later and both at the 25th pick. Keim constantly says how hard it is to find qb's and tackles. This is simply a value pick. BPA.

When asked what player was the toughest he faced at Mizzou, Shane Ray said LT D.J. Humphries.

I get the negative initial reaction to the pick because I, like many of you, did not anticipate the tackle position as one of the top needs...thus, I really didn't do as much homework on the top tackles.

However, when you think about it---BA has never seemed comfortable with Bobby Massie---plus, no other tackle on the roster could play LT if needed---and that's a major positive.

Just yesterday, I saw the interview where Shane Ray talked about Humphries, so i went and took a longer look.

I tell you what---I see what BA&SK see in Humphries---

* he was top rated tackle coming out of high school
* has proto-typical size---everything you look for---long arms----6-5/307
* better yet, he's very light on his feet---very mobile, which in this day and age tackles need to be in blocking speed rushers

Also---I have read reports that the Carolina Panthers were hoping Humphries---who is from Charlotte---would be there for them one pick after the Cardinals at #25. Instead they draft a small LB in Shaq Thompson, which is weird because the Panthers are loaded at LB, as we saw in the playoffs.

And I think the Cardinals got the last laugh on the Lions who traded out---because I think they thought they could take Humphries later---instead they drafted a G Laken Tomlinson even though they had just acquired G Manny Ramirez in the Denver trade up.

Humphries is young---but he is a rare talent---I just hope we don't hear the familiar "he's having trouble picking up the offense" refrain we've been hearing the past two years. Keim said he was drafting smart players---so we will see.

Anyway, here's a good look for you---Shane Ray versus D.J. Humphries:

What I was very impressed with is how Humphries is so quick and agile that he doesn't tip off pass plays at all. Most of the plays Humphries dominates Ray, but Ray gets the edge on him twice, and the Florida QB doesn't step up into the pocket in time.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree about Romo. He wasn't considered top 10 until recently (when his Oline blocking improved).

When it comes to saying ANYONE (7th rounder as you say) can be stuck behind a great line and succeed...you said that not me. I think the Cards need an upgrade at the RB position. A big guy to go along with Ellington. With that in place then 1500 yards is well within the realm of possibilities with the Cards fast improving (I hope) Oline.

Yes that is who I mean. I never said they were awful. Just better since their Oline improved. Read what I said not what you think I said.

Here is my analogy:

You get an unexpected $800 from a tax refund

You really want a new TV, but for the money you could only get a mediocre brand. The model you wanted is gone.

You also find a very high quality washing machine half off for the same amount. While you could get by with the current one -- it's just ok and will likely be gone by next year.

You buy the washing machine because it's the best value for your money. While it's the smart thing in the long run, you feel dissapointment because you really wanted that big screen.

Problem here is we got the mediocre brand LT... the 5TH taken... who we're gonna switch to RT. It's not like we took a sure thing. We took an oft-injured player who's best attribute was that he was awesome in high school... three years ago. That doesn't scream like best value for your money.
