I didn't realize that, thought it was only for the original team.

This is correct. The the Kings could have paid Cousins more than another team, the Pelicans. I found this today from a John Gambadoro article.

Cousins for his part said he wanted to stay — mainly because by being traded he loses about $30 million as the designation rule allowed his original team to pay him 35 percent of the salary cap, but his new team can only pay him 30 percent of the cap. That’s a big chunk of change Cousins loses by being dealt.

No. 1: Report: Wolves among teams in pursuit of Rose -- Of the five names who comprise the current Minnesota Timberwolves' coaching staff, four of them have ties to Chicago Bulls -- the foremost, of course, being coach Tom Thibodeau. That crew was instrumental in Derrick Rose's rise to MVP status in the 2010-11 season, but since then, injuries have taken Rose's game down a few pegs. As the trade deadline nears, Rose (and his expiring contract) are appealing to some teams and as Ian Begley of ESPN.com reports, the Timberwolves are one such club interested in him:

Clippers, Thunder pushing for Wilson Chandler
The Oklahoma City Thunder and Clippers are reportedly both going hard after Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler. The 6-8 three/four combo would be a great help to either team, but the question is whether either can come up with a package attractive enough for Denver to pull the trigger.

For the Clippers he could slide right into the small forward spot in the starting lineup or add some scoring to the bench unit. He could also allow the Clippers to play small for stretches of the game, moving Blake Griffin to the five and having Chandler fill in at the four.

For the Thunder, particularly with the injury to Enes Kanter, they just need someone besides Westbrook who can put the ball in the basket. Chandler can clearly do that, and would fit nicely as a scorer and floor-spacer alongside Westbrook and Steven Adams.

A former Sixth Man of the Year, Williams can operate as a combo guard off the bench, making him an attractive option for several playoff contenders.

  • For starters, the Wizards are looking at him. That makes sense, since Washington’s bench has, for the most part, been a trash can, on fire, rolling down a gently-sloped hill. Williams’ defense is an issue, but the Wizards really just need a player to make sure the bench doesn’t relinquish a lead.
  • ESPN reports that the Jazz are also interested. They’ve been struggling in the backcourt with Dante Exum having regressed in a big way. Williams would give their offense, 12th in the league in efficiency but subject to occasional stalling, a boost. Their defensive scheme could cover his deficiencies.
As for what the Lakers would want, their starting asking price likely would be a first-round pick, but Williams probably won’t generate that, at least not in the lottery. But the Lakers probably could find a discount young player to fill in the gap, and teams like the Kings and Suns have such players available.
