Overall rank on ESPN/Scouts Inc has him as the 337 ranked player and 38 best at position.

CBS has him ranked 271.

Bleacher Report doesn't have him ranked in top 300.

How can you take a guy like this in the 3rd when there were legitimate starters still out there to be taken.....Westerman, Simmons, Sanchez, Sheldon Day, Matakivich

I hope we have a deal in place with Powers, since we took a guy to play special teams and develop at corner.

Keim says Williams received rave reviews from A&M DC John Chavous. Called him among best CBs he's coached.

What ESPN/cbs/nflnet/etc have players ranked at doesn't mean jack when it comes draft day. Time after time top 50 players stink. And we pick Rodney Gunter. Or John brown. Or DJ. golden. All expected to go at least a round or two after we draft them. Give Keim a freakin break. Good god

I will rely on my 100% airtight judgment on past picks

When I go "meh"-- they tend to work out well.

I don't know about this guy, but there had to have been better players out there then him.

If you are going to make a pick like this at end of R3, why not tell the Cards fans so we don't bother watching for 4 hours in anticipation of a great pick.

Our return game stunk out loud last year. We have a deep roster and can afford to take a player who improves our weakest third of the game. I think his speed and return ability is what we're looking at.

All I have to say is Seattle sure knows how to draft. Wow, they will be much tougher next year than ever.

As usual, this board is filled with people who know more than Steve Kiem. Boo hoo. Have you guys paid ANY attention to what this team and their management has done the last 3 years?

This is not a return guy. He returned 2 punts in 2014 for 13 yds and was so impressive he returned zero kicks in 2015.

Forget what the coach says. You can't recruit players if you don't publicly support your current graduates.

Brandon Williams was a name I kept hearing for the last 10 days. I know Bill Belichick brought him in for a visit. And the general buzz was that he was going to be taken late 3rd or early 4th. He's only played CB one year. However, his 4.3 speed and 30' vertical and blistering 3 cone time at the Combine really turned heads.

I am surprised that they would take a raw player like Williams over a high level performer like BC's Justin Simmons. First with the rumors about converting T.J. Green to CB and now with taking Williams it seems the Cardinals were determined to draft for size and speed, regardless of experience.

The thing is---it would be hard to imagine that they could get him ready to see any significant action on defense for a few years. In the interim, as you all suggest, he will have to be a good STs player, and maybe he doubles as a RB on occasion. Williams has experience as a RB. I wonder if he can return kickoffs and punts.

+1

While I am always amazed at the knowledge and passion of the folks here when it comes to the Cardinals, I'll still trust in BASK when it counts.

Mel and Mcshay both loved the pick and they believe he can be a good punt returner. I think that's what he'll do next year and we'll see. I am not in love with the pick but as you stated BASK has earned our respect so I'll trust they know what their doing, or have in mind. This could be purely building for the future as well.

To be fair, they brought in that 5 star kid out of Arizona last year and he was the punt returner, didn't they?

And play special teams, if Bethel is the starting CB next year he might not play as much on special teams.

Excellent point, WC!

I think that SK made this pick now because the Patriots had a 3rd round comp pick right behind us, and knowing that Belichick worked Williams out just a few days ago, and sensing that Belichick would have picked him.

It might have been some gamesmanship too if the Cardinals were planning to take QB Jacoby Brissett at #92 and the Patriots took him at #91.

Curious too that BA said tonight that he doesn't think the will sign another CB, only if they need to at a alter date. Hmmm.
