When I read that another team was going to take him in R4, and when he does something spectacular on the field to make me think he is good, I will reserve the right to criticize this and any pick the Cards make. That doesn't mean I won't be rooting for him. But I have been right more times than not on criticizing who we picked and when. In this case, it all comes down to the when. Until I read otherwise, I will always assume we could have gotten him in round 5 or 6, and we passed on some dang good players we could use right now and who won't be there for us 30 picks from now. A few are already gone. I just hope Simmons, Day, Westerman, Willie Henry, D.J. White, Killebrew, Peake, Kwiatkoski, Zack Sanchez, Matakevich, D.J. Reader, to name a few, don't turn out to be as good as many think they can be. Those first 3 names in particular are really good proven football players with tons of experience. Simmons would have been a dream pick at 92. He was a top 50 player and considered as having great character and work ethics. Hard to pass him up. It is like someone was giving us a gift and we refused it.
I wish I could remember when a player that nearly every site had rated as a 7th/FA went in the 3rd. Think of the good picks we have made the last few years that were nearly as unknown as this kid. Our front office is great at finding them. But we have the patience to wait till R5 or R6. It is just too hard to believe right now that this kid is that damn good, yet everyone else with any knowledge at all has no viable or decent rating on him.
That is my opinion and I'm sticking to it until I hear some other team's coach or front office say we stole this guy from them.
After all that, let me say that its really no big deal .... we have missed on higher draft choices many times. Gambling on a 3rd won't be the death of us.
