Trade of Longoria indicates #Rays open to anything, but does NOT necessarily mean Archer is next, sources tell The Athletic. Rays, given strength of farm system, not looking at five-year rebuild. Might compete as soon as 2019; Archer under control and affordable through ‘21.

#Rays were in more urgent position with Longoria, who is 32, had $86 million remaining in guaranteed money and stood to gain full no-trade protection as a 10-and-5 player in April. Rays can spend 2018 assessing young talent. Archer, as long as he stays healthy, will retain value.

to reiterate, yanks and pirates remain apart on gerrit cole. yanks have the pieces to make it work. but they have no plans to surrender gleyber torres, much less the torres-frazier-others request.
That seems to be the theme with all big name guys on the trade market this offseason. Teams want them for practically nothing. NYY were gifted Stanton and want to push their luck with Cole. I don't blame BAL (Machado), MIA (Yelich) or PIT (Cole) for holding out for package of top prospects. I hope NYY & CHW don't fleece these teams, they can all go pound sand. You can't have a great farm and a superstar lineup unless its all home grown talent IMO.
