If the #Dodgers were actually interested in taking on Giancarlo Stanton's contract, they would have traded for Justin Verlander this summer. They are not adding significant payroll.
Are you sure of that? Will the Dodgers let payroll stop them from bringing Stanton on board, especially when they were that close to a World Series championship?

Especially with some contracts coming off the books.

I hope MIA doesn’t pull a BOS the year the gave up Gonzalez and others for scrubs and cap space. MIA better be getting Buehler, Verdugo and a couple of other pieces.

One early measure of bullpen market will be whether Addison Reed and Bryan Shaw get four-year deals. Two of youngest relievers available in free agency: Reed turns 29 on Dec. 27. Shaw recently turned 30.

Sources: #Orioles, All-Star 2B Jonathan Schoop have begun extension talks. Schoop is coming off a career offensive season and is eligible for free agency after ’19. Any deal likely would need to be north of Jean Segura’s 5-year, $70M contract. @MLB @MLBNetwork

The #Braves have acquired LHP Justin Kelly from the Angels in exchange for RHP Jim Johnson:

Johnson had a 5.56 ERA in 56.2 innings pitched in 61 games out of the bullpen for the Braves last season. Not including any inherited runners he let in if brought in with runners on base.

I wonder why the Halo's would want him after that kind of season. Nine blown saves out of 31 opportunities. Even if he gave up only a 2.72 combined ERA in the previous two seasons, he is 34 years old.

Well, he is six years younger than our 40 year old Rodney's and his 4.23 ERA as closer. But 5.56, I don't know.

For Giancarlo Stanton to move from the Marlins to a California team, there would be a major state tax increase. Some agents estimate it could cost Stanton in range of $25m-$27.5m over course of his 10-year deal. Marlins/trade partner could endeavor to offset this.

Sources: Welington Castillo's deal with the White Sox is for $15 million guaranteed. It's a two-year deal with a club option for $8 million in the third year. @Ken_Rosenthal had the deal done first.
