It's time to start looking at Doncic as a star player, rather than what position he plays.

You make room for a player like this because he can play most anywhere on the court.
It just has to be considered in context. After all the Euroleague has another star we have to consider.

If I may, here are a couple of comments from the link you kindly provided.

How rare exactly? Well, let’s say that triple-doubles are an incredibly scarce phenomenon to see in Europe and a thing that becomes even more difficult to find in the highest levels of basketball. The reasons for this are plenty and have to do mainly with the fact that match last 40 minutes, that often practice low-tempo offenses and that the pace of the game is generally slower-moving in comparison with the NBA, something which automatically reduces the number of possessions.

So yes. When any player posts a triple-double in Europe, especially in a highly competitive championship, it’s pretty much “breaking news”. Even moreso when it happens by a… 19-year-old.

Saw this Mock, it has Cleveland winning and the Suns falling to #4. The Suns take Young at 4 and are able to grab Kevin Knox at 16. I'd be happy with that, not overjoyed, but it would be adding 1 potential star in Young and a good big in Knox, who is from Kentucky. Because Knox is from Kentucky I doubt he'd slide past the Suns. I've seen him as high as 10 in other mocks and I think he'd be a good pick at #16 if he's still on the board. Seeing Cleveland win would be BS but hopefully Lebron leaves, which would make it easier to accept them getting the #1 pick.

Plus I'd like to add...Does any draft pick have a better understanding of basketball than Doncic does right now?

I don't know for sure but I think Trae Young gets it as well.

If they get the first pick, LeBron stays and that puck gets flipped for either Leonard or Westbrook.

I love Young but whenever I watched Knox play I had the feeling his ceiling falls somewhere between Marcus Morris and Tobias Harris. I don't like that he's a poor teammate on the floor and is very weak defensively.

So two centers and Doncic go before the Suns draft at #4. :hammer:

I like Young but I want a choice.

Kevin Knox should be a good pick but I'm not excited about drafting a combo forward at #16. However, something about Knox reminds me of Tatum. Solid but not flashy.

It better not go down like this.

But if we get #1 we still have no choice. We have to take Ayton. :D

If the Suns have Doncic at the top of their draft board right now then I hope they get the #2 pick in the lottery. Picking him before Ayton, or while Ayton is on the board, would cause Suns fans to lose their minds. Doncic may end up being the better player statistically but I think Ayton will be more impactful.

Thats a pretty good player at 16 then.

Im not super high on Knox, but he definitely interests me. He has enough laterally and overall athletically to become a solid defender, and someone who can defend two, potentially three positions. His jumper looks like it will play as it develops, and UK guys are notorious for not being able to show the full range of their abilities in the dribble-drive system.

I actually see it the opposite way. I see Ayton as someone more in the mold of Cousins (puts up big stats on mediocre to poor teams) and Doncic being the player that has the bigger impact on the outcome of a game (Simmons is a player that comes to mind).

Actually his lateral quickness is questionable at best. He's a disinterested defender and, offensively, no one has convinced him that he shares the floor with other players. He has some skills but he's very inconsistent even in his strong areas. I would not want to spend the 16th pick on someone whose ceiling is Tobias Harris. He doesn't seem like the kind of player that will ever get close to his ceiling.

They don't really run the dribble drive anymore, or not that much. They've been more pick and roll for several years. Partly because Calipari got feedback from NBA people that his kids were unprepared for the NBA because the dribble drive uses no pick and roll, mainly clearouts or handoffs.

That pretty much sums it up
