The Cardinals trade both of their seventh round picks to Oakland in order to move into the sixth round. With that choice, the 208th overall, they picked Auburn safety Rudy Ford.
Ford is another hybrid play for the Cardinals. He played both safety and cornerback for Auburn, but Ford said he the Cardinals plan to play him at cornerback.
During the NFL Combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds, so he has the speed.
Ford, 5-feet-11-inches and 205 pounds, worked with former Cardinals cornerback Rod Hood the past few months. Hood has maintained close ties with the Cardinals and has worked as a coaching intern in the last two training camps.
Ford had a pre-draft visit with the Cardinals and worked out with cornerback Patrick Peterson.
“I’ve got a great mentor in Patrick Peterson, great mentor in Rodney Hood,” Ford said. “I’m definitely ready to get the ball rolling.”
