It's it really that surprising? I mean rookie wide receivers usually take a bit to get going, feeling comfortable . It's not like the old days where you just ran a route they're so many things to learn and get on the same page with their QB.

Actually it’s kind of been the reverse. The old thinking was that it takes wrs a while to acclimate to the nfl. More recent history suggests that’s changed.

Kirk = Michael Floyd 2.0. I hope I'm proven wrong. And quickly.

You've got it a bit backward. In the old days rookie WRs used to take time to develop even high round DPs not so much anymore. Tons of WRs come in and produce in year 1.

No Buzz since training camp. Nada. Zilch.
Would you want him to get hype in TC just to have no impact in real games like with some of our picks the past couple of years?

Real impact is better. That is the hope but I am a little concerned he is not standing out against Bryce Butler, Chad Williams, Greg Little.

I mean, that was my point.

I also forgot(again) Greg Little was on the team until you mentioned it btw.

Yes and as you say tons don't.

Rookie years
Dez 45rec and 500 yards

Hopkins pretty good 52 800 yards
Tavon Austin...bust
Cordarrelle Patterson 31 for 309
Michael Floyd...bust
Alshon Jeffery 24 for 367

And those are all first rounders, I know that there are plenty that had good years too, but the only Cardinal I can remember was Q.

PS look at the two Wrs drafted last year in the first round.

I like what I'm hearing. (we need a quality backup behind DJ).

Am also keeping an eye on the Fullback battle - can Penny beat out Coleman? (The stronger we are at FB, the less pressure on building TE depth).

There was an article during draft time this year that pretty much said rookie WRs are slower to develop than in previous years. I have to see if I can find it...

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ing-the-recent-bust-rate-for-first-round-wrs/

from 2015-2017 first round rookie WRs have averaged 320.8 yards a season, from 2011-2013 they averaged 601.2

They still take a while to develop, and most coming in have a limited route tree due to the spread offense variations in college. Compile that with the speed of the game, the physical nature of having to get off the line, and the pro style playbook, and it takes a while before they are able to react using their full physical talent instead of thinking. It's the mental aspect which Kirk is dealing with once they started camp real time and the only Cardinal WR I saw which really was an exception in relation to their full potential was Boldin who from day one was a beast

I think we are really getting a good look at the offense McCoy & Wilks want to run. Fast pace, RPO, dumps to backs, WR screens, and deep shots to JJ & Fitz.

I'm fine with it but damn..... I think McVay and Shannahan are going to be better than us at it. But what do I know.
Every team has its own preseason narrative among media guys.

Th Cardinals are being hyped as the "Surprise" team of the NFL.

I can live with that.

PS One thing I note about our offense - plays are executed smoothly - handoffs look slick/passes arrive on-time and where they can be caught in full-stride.

I heard that TJ Logan is up to 207 now. Still not a big back but should help with strength. He should be a very good return man for us. He was lightning in a bottle here in Carolina.

Kirk is a slot WR on a team that uses a hall of famer in the slot in 3 WR sets. What did you expect to do?

Chopper, while I agree completely with what you said, I am reminded that we played two smaller guys on the outside in the last few years, with Larry in the slot. Granted they were faster than Kirk, but he seems to have better hands. Worst case, Kirk is the future slot receiver and the present PR.

NFL rookie risers: 10 value draft picks paying early dividends

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...s-10-value-draft-picks-paying-early-dividends

Chase Edmonds, RB, Arizona Cardinals

Drafted: Round 4, No. 134 overall out of Fordham

I was in the building to watch Edmonds' incredible touchdown run against the Chargers. He runs much bigger than his size (5-9, 205) and refuses to go down on first contact. While he played at a lower competition level in college, Edmonds did dominate and produce eye-popping career numbers (5,862 rushing yards and 74 total touchdowns). David Johnson will be the workhorse back in Arizona now that he's healthy again, but Edmonds will earn his fair share of touches this fall. He was an excellent value pick.

I remember seeing draft evaluations on Edmonds, as Pro Football Weekly, which said "he is small and plays small"... this is why a guy that is so productive playing in a smaller collegiate division (who actually plays large for being small) has a future in the NFL while all these media hacks do not have a job on a pro team scouting

Kirk is not a vertical player. That is why he struggles to have a role with Fitz on the roster.
