The game has been more competitive than normal. Players are trying some defensively instead of just playing matador defense while players bomb 3's and dunk at will. I think it was last years game where it was beyond ridiculous how many players were chucking 3's as soon as they crossed half court and the dunks they were trying to do in the game were basically dunk contest type dunks. I can understand why they made the change considering how bad it got but I think they would be better suited changing it differently to incentivize players. Doing something like the winning team splits $1 million bucks, the losing team gets $100k. I don't want to see them do something like MLB where they give home field for the World Series though. Too many players are playing that aren't involved in that.

I absolutely agree. And for the reason you mentioned. Especially in MLB, where the primary obligation of the Manager is to get every player into the game. Far different than an NBA rotation of constant substitutes.

Still, I don't like the schoolyard concept of choosing up sides in this years NBA All Star game. I've rooted for the West for a long time.

According to what Marv Albert said they do have cash incentives tied to the game. The losing team splits $25k and the winning team splits $100k. The winning team's charity gets $350k and the losing teams charity gets $150k. I like the charity portion of that. I'm actually a little surprised by how little the players get. He said it was raised this year also. Splitting $100k between 12 players isn't much but it's a lot more than $25k for the losing team.

Ok that amount isn't split amongst the teams it's per player.

"This year, each player on the winning All-Star team will receive $100,000, with the losing team's players pocketing $25,000. That's a $50,000 boost from previous winning purses given to entice players to compete harder during the midseason classics."

Saw that mentioned in an article about the Greek Freak. That's a substantial difference and should cause players to try a bit more. Here is that link, if anyone is interested. It's about Giannis and his struggles growing up financially. He's definitely a humble guy.
