I don’t mean the current version IT of course ... I assume he’ll get better although a labrum tear is pretty brutal which is what he had in his hip..I have one in my shoulder and the doctors have said it’s not worth repairing considering my age and difficulty of recovering from the surgery.

If he could play his hair wouldn't be much of an issue but he hasn't lived up to his potential since entering the league, on offense or defense. He's a backup PG at best.

I haven't watched him much recently, but I am impressed by how he has improved his efficiency as a scorer. His fg% has improved significantly all four years in the league and, surprisingly (given his reputation) his 3 point percentage is good this year as well.

He's shooting 51.6% from the field and 38.6% from 3-point range while adding 6.6 apg and 1.3 spg. The shooting % is actually #1 in the league for qualified point guards.

Still only 23 years old and a top 10 pick. Could be interesting based on stats, but again I haven't watched him play much so maybe I'm missing something.

I think this is a case where maybe stats lie. I haven’t watched him play, so I can’t be certain. But when the stats seem good for a pg, but the team sucks, and the team is looking to unload the pg, it screams the stats aren’t adding up to an impact.

Maybe the Suns could trade second round picks for Payton as he will be a RFA in the offseason. They would get a chance to kick the tires.

Also a possibility the Suns could trade Monroe (expiring contract) and a pick to the Magic for Fournier.

I'm not really high on Payton and I would not trade for him either since he will get a new contract this summer and it will be a sizeable one despite his obvious shortcomings.

Fournier is too much alike Booker and taking over his contract would be too early and premature at this point of Suns' rebuilding.

Got to keep in mind that as is the Suns will only have about $14-15 million in cap space this summer. Of course they could absorb a contract at the trade deadline but I can't see them doing that for a player that doesn't potentially fill a need. They have 12 players under contract already for next season also so if they take on a long term deal they'll probably want to move Dudley or Chandler to free up roster space. In addition to having those 12 spots spoken for they could have as many as 7 picks in this draft, 3 first rounders and 4 second rounders, so they won't have room for everybody as it stands right now. They do have their 2 Two-Way contracts available for second round picks but they'll need to waive Peters to free up one of them.

It's a shame the second round picks aren't enough to move Knight's contract. I think the Suns would gladly trade all 4 of those to get that off their books and have the roster spot open.

How do you figure that? Booker, Warren, Knight, Chandler, Dudley, Williams, Bender, Chriss, Jackson, Daniels, Reed. Monroe and Len are gone. Am I forgetting something?

I'd only use a second round pick or two so the Suns could evaluate Payton before he gets a new contract if the Suns were interested.

It may be too premature but I like what Fournier brings to the table, shooting, so I mentioned him. I don't know how the Suns would use him. However, I like that he is a young player under contract.

Being like Booker is not a bad thing.

They'll have 14-15 million in cap space this coming summer, don't think it's hard to figure out.

http://www.spotrac.com/nba/phoenix-suns/cap/2018/

They'll have Ulis, Knight, Booker, Daniels, Reed, Warren, Jackson, Dudley, Chriss, Bender, Chandler, and Williams under contract making up close to $90 million.

I thought it added in rookie holds as well since I couldn't figure out why there was the $8 million discrepancy between the sites. The salaries listed are the same on both sites for everyone and I did the math and kept coming up with the $78.418 million dollar figure for next year's salaries but then i found the mistake. They list Len's deal as a qualifying offer and factor that into their salaries, it's valued at $7.956 million. That amount makes up the difference between the 2 sites.

The Spotrac site does list cap holds but it doesn't list Len's because of that error. I'm not sure if that amount will be his cap hold or not but they list the cap holds for Monroe and Canaan if you scroll down towards the bottom. They'll have $28.371 million in cap holds, if Monroe is kept through the season. His hold is $26.826 million and Canaan's is just $1.544. I don't think they'll keep Monroe beyond this season, so they'll probably renounce that right away. Len and Canaan are a little different though, they could be kept but it's not a sure thing. If they renounce all free agents they could have $22.578 million in cap space, not counting rookie holds.

There is another difference between the sites that might be something to look for this summer, Spotrac lists Ulis and Big Sauce's contracts as non-guaranteed. I think both will be kept but that would allow them some more flexibility in terms of roster space, mainly. If Williams is let go that would free up another $5.5 million. However if you try to figure what the rookie cap holds are you can look at what Josh Jackson is making this season, he's getting $5.09 million as the #4 pick, which is around the same area where the Suns will pick again. So if you factor in around the same or a little less since #4 might be a little high based on the standings now their own pick will cost around $4-5 million and the Miami pick will probably be around $2-3 million. Factoring in those amounts the Suns will probably have around $14-15 million dollars to spend in free agency but I initially quoted that figure wrong since the site I used listed that incorrectly.

I am starting to wonder if Warren and Chriss are part of a trade. Very odd they both go out after a long break in the schedule.

If that’s true they better be getting something special in return.

Hadn't thought of that but you could be onto something. In addition to them missing time Monroe actually played off the bench the other day. I know we're short handed but he saw 3 minutes in the Indy game, for some reason, it wasn't garbage time at that point either. Prior to that appearance he hadn't played since January 03rd against the Nuggets. It's not odd to see Dudley get minutes like that but the Suns haven't used Monroe like that.

Chriss did get hurt, it was clear as day to see when that happened in the Thunder game. Warren played in the Rockets game though and didn't show any signs of issues and now he's out for a back injury.
