When Hal Steinbrenner, taking a page out of his legendary dad’s playbook, OK’ed the 9th year, that was the clincher on Cole talks. Yankees are getting a bit of backlash but they seem to care not one bit. Response of some Yankees people: we have the $, so too bad!

Belief is Gerrit Cole simply wanted to be a Yankee. Dodgers/Angels both were at about 300M (and likely would have gone a tad higher had he given go-ahead). Hometown thing over-rated. Yanks did nice job w/cutting-edge pitching coach Blake plus Pettitte, who knows about NY/winning

Buzz around the valley is ARZ has serious interest in Bumgardner. Not willing to pay more than $100M but Gambo and AZ Central seem to think ARZ is willing to go less than 5 years with an average between $20M - $25M a year. If Mad Bum can't get $100M then ARZ could be a strong possibility so he can stick it to his former club.
