NBA could have lots of money in next NBA rights deal.

“The NBA’s current deal pays over $2 billion per year, and it could increase that figure to $8 billion in its next agreement with partners Turner Sports and ESPN.”

I did not see that coming. Quite the opposite.

I understand the NFL received a new television deal. The NBA might be doing the same?

The last TV deal involved a huge jump that caught almost everyone by surprise, I didn't expect that to happen again. If anything, I thought the money might be even less. I know that they've talked about live sports being the only defense against modern viewing habits but I'm really surprised by this news.

Sounds sort of like posturing by the NBA in an attempt to safe guard themselves from another pandemic or incident that shuts down live attendance. I doubt they'll get 4 times what they are now but doubling it seems plausible.

@AzStevenCal @Hoop Head

The future looks pretty encouraging with the current NBA deal running through the 2024-25 season.

There is a lot of worldwide interest in he NBA, reportedly more than the NFL. The NBA even has a $1.5 streaming deal with a Chinese company.

By Jabari Young, CNBC article:

After the National Football League celebrated its history-making 11-year contract worth more than $100 billion, attention shifted to the NBA’s deal, which runs through the 2024-25 season. Early thinking within league circles suggests the NBA will seek a $75 billion rights package, up from its current $24 billion deal, which pays $2.6 billion per year.

----------------------------------------------

The NBA has a good reason to seek more money for its rights. The league has more global appeal than the NFL and has a younger demographic, too, as Generation Z continues to support the NBA and Gen Alpha appears to continue the trend.

Added respect for Kawhi Leonard. That's a beautiful house.

I bet a lot of teams forgot because Siakam was selected 27th in the first round in the 2016 draft.

But we got Bender and Chriss!
