I'm going to post this here as well.

The Omicron variant is responsible for 90% of NBA coronavirus cases.

On Gambo's show today they said the NBA is kicking around the idea of letting asymptomatic players play. They seem to think that Omicron isn't a threat, might be a godsend.

I could be supportive of this but there are fans, staff and those at severe risk to consider.

If the recent study from London holds up over time Omicron is far from a godsend - unless they mean it's from the god that promised he wouldn't wipe us out with a flood the next time he gets pissed.

This train KC thought worries me right now. It’s the same kind of stuff said about Delta initially. Deaths and hospitalization always lag by about a month. This was JUST identified the weekend before Thanksgiving.

I think the next 2-4 weeks should tell the tale of how f’ed up this wave is gonna be. People making decisions to LET UP before we know what this really looks like is just bass-ackwards thinking to me.

It's been in England for about a month, really exploded the case rates starting about 3 weeks ago. In that time their hospitalization rates have hardly budged.

In South Africa their hospitalization rate is actually down during an explosion in cases.

Hospitalizations do lag behind cases but the early signs so far are good, it is the dominant strain all over the western world, the NBA said that the vast majority of their current cases are Omicron. This variant seems far less severe than those that preceded it, it also seems so contagious that efforts to contain it may be futile.

I truly hope it just flies through everyone like crap through a goose and almost just as painless.

I wonder if it is less deadly if the immunity ends up being as strong or long lasting.

With how contagious it is there is a good chance it will wipe out the other variants, which would be great.

If the trend keeps up I honestly think that unless a community's health services are in the tank then they should let this thing run wild. The elderly and compromised should be careful but for the healthy and vaxxed this could represent a chance to achieve true heard immunity, rapidly, and put this whole thing behind us.

I understand the Spanish Flu underwent a similar phase, a far milder variant become prominent and ended the pandemic.

This is what my biology teacher wife says. I usually don't argue with her regarding science.

Free agent guard Joe Johnson is signing a 10-day deal with the Boston Celtics, sources tell ESPN. Johnson is returning to the franchise that drafted him 20 years ago and is expected to play tonight vs. Cleveland.

What? He is 40 years old. Hasn't he been out of the league for three years or so?

He's been nails in the three on three league. Especially from three. I was thinking of him if we needed a ten day guy.

Derrick Rose has ankle surgery and will be evaluated again in 6-8 weeks.

Don't let @Phrazbit trade Elfrid Payton. ;)

Plus how do you know for sure which variant, or original covid, that a player has?

I've had the same question. Maybe the lab results? The Omicron variant seems to be the dominant variant in the NBA.

I assume they are able to tell from testing. Otherwise all these states are just meaningless guesses.

Why did you guys let DeAnthony Melton go again, just too young or was it because you got CP3? obviously Paul is better but melton has become a stud for the Grizz.

That was a dumb deal in real time. They could’ve easily gotten rid of JJ without throwing in Melton and before ppl say they really covered Carter, well…

I think they preferred Carter over him, at the time Carter was a much better outside shooter and defender and they wanted guys who could contribute right away. I liked both guys, unfortunately Carter regressed and lost his rotation spot to Cam Payne and now Melton has grown by leaps and bounds.

Simmons for LeBron makes sense. The 76ers get a player for a championship run and the Lakers get a young top overall pick with Magic skills (yes, worse shooting better defense).

I wonder if the Lakers would trade LeBron without his consent.
