CENTER.
NOSE TACKLE.
Running back.
Edge Rusher.
Wide Receiver
Defensive End.

In that order, in those rounds

They need to resign TE Ertz and a get a solid WR like Robinson. DT is a big need on defense along with a CB. Also got to get a good backup Center.
Not a backup center...we need to draft a starter and let him sit behind Hudson for a while... get him some time at guard so he can see what Hudson sees and hear what he calls.

Re-sign Ertz, Conner & Williams (if he passes physical). I’m checking on FAs Laken Tomlinson G, B J Hill DT & Austin Corbett G. More options to come.

I’m cutting Pugh, J Murray, Prater, Gardeck & Isabella. Not much gained by cutting any others, but some small releases would be okay. Might re-sign Gardeck at a much lower figure.

We need a Guard instead of a Center & we need EDGE rusher over everything.
We need Hudson replacement...but we can play him at guard a season or two until Hudson is gone

And we always need edge rusher above everything....but we ain't picking in the top 5 so we ain't getting the edge rusher we need.... so draft a raw dude later and develop him

I think Allen Robinson would be a good 1 yr vet pickup
I believe marco and Byron( new deal on horizon ? ) with a vet pickup solidifies this group. Dont be afraid of bring back hamilton

Jones walks , thats no big deal. Id like to see them draft his replacement in first round.

Guard may be where they need to spend
I think Hamilton is OK as a depth guy. I noticed he played much tighter press than Wilson. He might not be physically gifted enough to lock down his man, but he is always around them and I can't remember he ever gave up a wide-open look, compared to Wilson.

I believe that our top three needs are EDGE, OG, and CB (DT if Phillips is cut and convert Allen to an edge player) maybe another ILB since both Simmons and Hicks suck, and Collins can't get on the field (kidding).

This is where I land. Re-sign Ertz and Conner. Sign a guy like Brandon Scherff and draft an offensive lineman in round 1 and another later.
Why would scherff be available? Is this like last offseason where you predicted a bunch of big time signings only to have a bunch of big name retread signings?

Didn’t the Niners draft two OL in the first rd one year? I wouldn’t be against that with our first and second rd picks but we need an explosive EDGE more than anything?

That’s his cap hit until it all accelerates.
Ya, looks like he will be closer to that $5mm to $6mm range. He’s just not a #2 WR at this point. We already have the best contested catch WR in the league in Hopkins. We need a guy that can get separation consistently - closest thing we have to that is Kirk today - yuck.

I just don’t see AJ willing to be anything less than the #2 option, unless he’s desperate for money.

Unfortunately, our list of needs this off-season is almost the same as our list of needs last off-season, only a little longer.

I would personally just load up on the lines, with the exception of a CB in the 2nd or 3rd. At some point we need to develop our own O linemen instead of paying top dollar for the Pughs and Iupatis of the league. It's also senseless to count on sustained production from Watt or Phillips. Odds are they are going only going to play for half the season. Lawrence and Fotu are fine for depth, but they don't strike me as dependable starters. Neither does Allen, frankly. It's time to build up the trenches like Keim promised he would do when he took the GM job.

I like this strategy. I feel DTs are so hit or miss in the draft though so maybe regulate your early picks for OL and tackle that position and depth in FA?

Still need a weapon on offense of letting Kirk and Green walk (which I sure hope we do)… I would think we could tackle this in FA as well. I do still believe skill position players would find it attractive to play w Kyler and Nuk.

Even if its a good idea to jettison these guys I don't see it happening. I suspect they keep Pugh and Murray and maybe Prater. Gardeck is a UFA come 2022. Isabella should be cut as his cap hit is only $350,000 while you save $1.1 million by cutting him.

Well this isn't a prediction by any means but I will probably be on the side of the fence that we will do smart things instead of dumb ones. And, like this past year, I will likely be wrong.

Thanks to @Harry for all the draft write-ups - very insightful.

At this point - here is my short/way too early list:

Round 1
Treylon Burks - WR
Jameson Williams - WR (too talented to pass up if he makes it to us)
Kaiir Elam - CB (needs to tackle better)
Ahmad Gardner - CB
Roger McCreary - CB (if he can play outside he is my #1 choice at CB in our range)
Kenyon Green - OG
Jermaine Johnson -Edge

I'm pretty sure SK will swear that he drafts according to Best Available Player. This would render team-need inconsequential

Cards need to hit on several picks in next years draft. (Which is not encouraging).

Immediate needs:

OG
DT
DE
OT
WR
I think OLB is a much bigger need than DE. Would add you CB to your list as well

I'm not saying your saying this is what we should do, but since CJ is going to demand such big dollars, the highest financial reward/savings for a successful draft pick would come from an EDGE player that could step in and start right away at OLB.

But of course drafting for need at such a critical position is a dangerous, dangerous proposition. I think of the Calvin Pace debacle in this situation every time.
