Whoever we draft, he’ll likely be cut, in court for some reason or spend the first year on the bench. We’ve missed so many time in the first and second day selections, that we’ve come to expect it. Then we sigh expensive FAs to fill the voids. We end up low on cap $$s, depleted in critical positions and then rely on late-season fill-ins. Then it starts the same process over. Draft better or hire someone who can.

What about this plan?
-Sign WR DJ Chark to a 1 year prove it real
-bring back Haason Reddick
-draft cornerback in 1st, guard in 2nd
-try to bring back both Maxx and Ertz, and let Green And kirk walk.
-restructure Hopkins, extend Humphries. Phillips/Kennard/Pugh/Hicks could all possibly be cut. If Pugh is cut then we would need 2 guards.. Phillips is a little tricky as he was easily cut-able before but the restructure for Ertz was a real killer.
-fill the rest of the needs through the rest of the draft and cheap free agent deals

FA has to bring us 2 solid starters at WR, CB, DT, or DE. Our top couple draft picks need to be spent on the remaining 2, with OLmen chosen with picks as the draft proceeds.

According to Over the Cap, we will have three comp picks: 1 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th.

OUR Rounds: 1, 2, 3, 6(2), 7(3)

Going into the offseason, I would consider the following:

1. take a pass on Chandler Jones
2. Cut Hicks & Kennard (This would give us about $16.7m in total cap space)
3. New deals with DJ and Pugh, which will give us additional space.
4. Target two of Ertz, Williams, Kirk
5. Target one of Conner, Edmonds
6. #1 target in FA: Right guard - #2: N-tackle - #3: pass rush - #4: Wideout - #5: Cornerback
7. That which can't be addressed in FA will then fall to the draft or trade.

Solid plan but that leaves us with a huge hole at pass rusher/edge.

I just can't get behind signing Kirk for the 12-13m/year or so that guys like him (Curtis Samuel) are getting. I think you find another 1 year budget deal like AJ Green as your #2 and then draft Kirk's replacement.

4. Target two of Ertz, Williams, Kirk
Maxx Williams wont be large $. low base salary with incentives.

I question how many options Ertz will have. As a vet, i would think he would want a playoff caliber team -- but the playoff caliber teams are either cap constrained, or, those with some space already have good TEs.

Kirk's age says he will get offers --

The word "austere" comes to mind reading this. Not even saying it's unreasonable, but only that it paints a bit of a grim future for the team this upcoming season.

Also, it's becoming apparent we're just about finished wasting Kyler's rookie contract.
