Not sure what Silver and the owners can do at this point. I love KD but he forced his way out less than a year after signing an extension. We benefited from it because he only wanted to come here. Beal only wanted to come here. Harden only wants the Clippers and Dame only wants the Heat. No-trade clause or not superstars are choosing where they want to play regardless of their contractual obligation.

At least Philly got off the Simmons contract in that deal so it wasn’t a total travesty for Morey.

The NBA is at the point where they need the ability to lower or suspend a player's now "guaranteed" salary if they don't play.

Players are taking advantage of the situation. It should have been addressed in the last CBA.

It didn't help at all when Ben Simmons sat out and the Sixers withheld his pay so he cited "mental health" in order for the Players Association to fight for his money.

Mental health issues are very real but Simmons raised a stink demanding out well before claiming he wasn't available due to his mental health issues.

The NBA needs to do something. They should start handing out suspensions. Like if you publicly demand a trade - 1st time it's 20 games, 2nd time it's a season, 3rd it's a lifetime ban.

Only way this stuff will stop.

This is a really really dumb thing to do in public.

I hope Morey screws him royally. Harden has taken things to far, you can’t force yourself out every year after a team gave up big assets to get you.
I wouldn't be so quick to judge. My understanding is he took less money as Morey promised to give him a long term extension this offseason and then he didn't.

I don't believe for a second Harden could have gotten more money anywhere else. No team with cap space wanted him - and IMO for good reason, he would teach all your young players all the wrong things, not to mention he would half ass it till he got to a contender.

But that has nothing to do with my point. He was promised something and then didn't receive it.

Harden has demanded a trade from 3 teams in 4 years so it’s hard to paint him out as a victim here. Having an unmotivated/disgruntled Harden is not where you want to be going into probably the last season before Embiid demands out. They’ll be a mess this year.

All true but a promise is a promise. No matter what, Harden will end up like a bandit.

That's if you buy into the promise, which I don't see Morey doing. That is also circumventing the CBA for an illegal handshake deal and if Harden had evidence he could burn Philadelphia pretty bad. It's similar to what got Minnesota in trouble decades back with Joe Smith.

How Harden is acting isn't out of character as he's had a history of burning bridges like this so his credibility isn't great. There's no reason to believe him. He wasn't going to get a max deal after leaving Houston as his play hasn't warranted it. So I really don't get why Morey would offer him a max in a few years, as Harden claims.

I believe in keeping promises but I just don't believe that's what happened here. I suspect it was something like this "you take care of us James and when the time comes, I'll take care of you". Morey shouldn't be dumb enough to give a player an actual promise, that's nothing but trouble.

Yeah, I have no idea what really went down.

I highly doubt the 76ers are going to get this for James Harden. See below.

It reminds of the saying, "wish in one hand, spit in the other."

If Harden doesn’t want to be there he should’ve declined his contract. There is no market for him on that deal.

The Sixers would probably rather tell him to screw off and sit at home, than to take the garbage contracts that other teams would send them in return.

And now, as a result of this latest demand, and that he will probably show up fat and out of shape on purpose, no team will ever give him a multiyear deal again.

There was a day when I was wowed by harden. That day passed long ago.

Some of this I'm sure is a repeat.
