This was highway robbery. Hilarious that the NBA nixed the CP3 trade and said it was lopsided but let this garbage to through.
I think people forget that NO was owned and operated by the league

Really comparing anything before or after isn't going to be analogous - it was such a unique situation to navigate

There have been plenty of bad trades over the history of the league

The Chris Paul trade is the only one I can think of where all the owners in the league actually had a tangible stake and say in the operations of one of the teams

I was in Vegas for a convention this week and locals think there is a "90%" chance that the Mavs are moving there.
The conspiracy theory is that's why the trade was made. To facilitate their exit out of Dallas.

In regard to Luka Doncic, this is not the first time the Mavericks traded away a superstar star early.

Mark Cuban didn't match the Suns offer for Steve Nash in July 2004.

No wonder why he says he wouldn't have traded Luka Doncic if he had any influence. Worse yet, the Suns got Steve Nash for cash.

Will be interesting to monitor

There was some talk about a leverage play for a new facility with casino operations involved, but a lot of resistance

The team future is definitely a bit more murky

Cuban could go from hero to villain in this thing, which would be a bit of a wild arc as I think it would be difficult to argue his connection to the franchise and city

Wasn't someone here on the on the forum doing a pick tracker at one point?

If we're going to swing a deal with Houston we need to do it before the lottery takes place (eliminated teams can trade as soon as they're out), because if that thing moves up we're not getting any of them back.

Westbrook is a one man wrecking crew... for the opposition. Comically terrible and it's the same mistakes over and over and over.

I bet we sign him this summer.

Cuban has come out and is apparently making it clear to everyone involved he had nothing to do with the trade. He's also been getting heat because the new owners, Adelson et al, don't really follow basketball and so they blame Cuban for not being more involved

he sold the team and turned it over to Dumont and Harrison. He hired Harrison so that move is personal with him. He doesn't want to come out and admit that he made mistakes. But that is cuban's tenure in dallas in a nutshell. he's great at building a winner and he is a hard worker, but he makes a lot of mistakes that are ego centric. that's why the mavericks only won a title in the dirk era and wasted one of the greatest clutch shooters in NBA history. That is why the mavericks traded away Luka for a guy that can't even feature in the modern era. it comes down to cuban being great at some things, but being very basic at other things.

He can't say the same about letting Steve Nash walk.

I don't understand the sports fans who blame ownership for selling to new folks who don't work out. We saw some of that with the Suns where some chastised Colangelo for selling to Sarver but ultimately it doesn't fall on old ownership. Buying sports franchises is odd though since you need more than the cash, you need approval of the governing body like the NBA. You also need to stand out amongst other bidders. This isn't Cuban's fault but he's made a mistake by being so public about how his views of the trade. As long as he voices his opinion then he'll be met with dissenting views.

Still, that was a huge mistake. However, it's hard to see James Jones doing the same about his mistakes.
I think the point is that Cuban is a standup guy. If he says he had nothing to do with that trade? I believe him. You are talking about a guy who only made a profit 2 years out of all the time he owned the team. He was a fan.

So many iterations but if I'm seeing it right. Minnesota beats Memphis tonight, up 15 as I write late 3rd, it's a 3 way tie for the 6th spot, Warriors, Minnesot and Memphis all at 47-33.

Memphis next game is Denver so if they lose, and the Warriors beat Portland they'd be up 1 on Memphis. Denver has to play to win because they're 1 behind the Lakers so they have to keep winning.

The warriors last 2 games are Portland and then the Clips who are 1 game in front and have had the Warriors number all year. If they win out, seems likely Minnesota will too.
