So this portal is now closed. As I understand it, the teams still playing in CFP will have an additional 5 day window when their season ends. It doesn’t seem as though ASU lost many players or am I wrong on that?

I think we lost about 14, but no one that was getting a lot of playing time as far as I can tell, except maybe LT. Another Starter, Max I(can't spell his last name), offensive tackle, announced he is returning. These are both huge.

I am wondering who will be playing center though, he was outstanding and is gone.

Most of the starters on both sides of the ball are returning though, which is pretty awesome.

Max Iheanachor coming back was good news. Many thought he was at risk of joining his younger brother at cash-rich SMU.

Maybe this is standard and I just don’t see it but the amount of players returning is actually surprising me. I figured there would be some significant defections but there doesn’t seem to be.

It speaks to the culture Dillingham has built. I think it speaks to the ASU NIL collective growing some power.

To be honest, I thought the whole “activate the valley” schtick was cheesy but kind of harmless in its cheesiness but I think it is fair to say I misjudged how that is resonating. I think it is also fair to say the valley has been activated. Now, the program needs a series of deeper pocketed boosters to step up and infuse cash for NIL.

Not sure what it's like walking around in the Valley but I think that Dillingham has activated more than just that.

The sports radio stations I listen to here in Oregon usually just talk about the ducks but they have recently been raving about the Sun Devils and their peach bowl appearance.

Last night I was walking across the parking lot at the grocery store and saw a guy in a maroon ASU sweatshirt which I can't recall seeing here before. I told the guy "forks up and he said "go Devils!

This morning I was coming down the hill on a hike wearing my ASU rain jacket and a guy coming up the hill just started going off about how great the Sun Devils did in the peach bowl.

I think we have also seen the national media take notice of ASU football now with everybody from Dan Patrick to Steven A. Smith etc. talking about the Sun Devils and it's players

So yeah, perhaps the Valley has been activated but it may actually be broader than that at this point

Not to be a Debbie Downer..... But ASU has been here before the two Rose Bowl teams generated a lot of enthusiasm and hope for the future. Season tickets sold out after both of those games. The nation loved Jake the Snake and Tillman. We just didn't sustain it. It would be so awesome if we went back to back conference champs. That would be the real breakthrough.

I guess the difference is Jake the Snake 2.0, Leavitt, is coming back next year, with his offensive line -minus one-and his best receiver coming back. Similar deal on defense. They should definitely be good and we should expect it. Dillingham just got a crap ton of
money by ASU standards. He needs to deliver consistent, not just winning, but championships.

We should be good next year but it will be harder. Teams will put a target on us. And it is hard to say how much losing Skattebo hurts. He was the heart of this team. His fire and drive to compete is special.

This time feels different to me though. I think it's due to Dilly. Snyder was a good coach but nearing the end of his career with the 96 team. I didn't have the optimism that it was the start of a potentially long run that I do now with Dilly being in his 2nd year and only 34. There's a different excitement to it.

Yes, this has happened over and over with all of our teams. I will say it has gotten better. But most of the Valley is really only interested in who is hot at the moment.
