How many of these QB-hungry teams are left?

Teams with aging starters/near free agency: DAL, NYJ, DET, LAR
Teams looking to open things up: PIT, DEN, LVR, NYG, WAS, CHI, NO, ATL, SEA, TEN
Teams with dire QB needs: NEP, MIN, TB (today)

Any team in the bottom three tiers could invest a first-rounder in a QB.
According to your own list, as many as 17 teams could be interested...

I remember back in the dark ages that Bidwill Sr loved “high character guys” and we complained we drafter the choir boys who lacked the talent.
Hopefully its not to that degree. But if there avoiding George pickens type guys not mad it. Even that kid dallas Turner comments after the bama game kinda question him now

I know! I answered my own question. You're welcome. ;)

Some of those teams are going to find other answers in the draft of free agency, and some of them are going to be happy to wait and use a second- or third-round pick on their guy.

If only half are seriously looking, that's still a big group. Losing the #2 pick is going to hurt bad in terms of the kind of haul we could have had. Sad times!

Teams with established starters: MIA, BUF, BAL, CIN, KC, LAC, PHI, SF,
Teams with young players they're invested in: HOU, JAX, GB, CAR, ARI

I would put WAS and ATL in the dire tier. Great breakdown BTW.

Exactly. That 5th year option on a QB at the end of round is super enticing. If Penix does end up becoming a franchise QB, you get up to 5 years of super cost controlled salary for the highest paid position...

Agreed. I was kind of surprised that the number was so big. It feels like just a couple seasons ago QB play was at an absolute peak. Now it's real trash and teams are like "Desmond Ridder is the starter we deserve."

Cards Underground this week was saying "I dunno why people are mad if we drop to four -- we could still get MHJ!" I don't know if they were being serious or just glossing over the fact that many fans hoped to get a 2025 first-round pick (or, at least, a 2024 second-round pick) AND MHJ from this draft.

Thank you!

For whatever reason, WAS seems to really like Sam Howell. It's like What If Max Hall Mania Lasted an Entire Season. I don't get it, either, but his deal is very cheap and they could be making the Homeless Man's version of the conundrum we were discussing a couple weeks ago: draft a top-shelf QB prospect and build around him, or build the best possible team around the guy you like-but-don't-love. It will really depend on how their coaching situation shakes out.

...Speaking of which...

Arthur Blank failed to give Arthur Smith the vote of confidence. I don't know if drafting another QB extends his leash for another disappointing season (although they can still make the playoffs with a win and Tampa loss!). I think they'd like to bring in a veteran like Kirk or Ryan Tannehill to compete for the job.

People say this every year, Lamar Jackson was the last QB drafted in the first round where someone traded up in the second to get him in the first. They needed that extra year, too!

Teddy Bridgewater in 2014 was the next most-recent example. Didn't use the fifth-year option on him.

There are more teams that could need a QB, (than average years) and probably a couple QBs that would be available in the 20s...

Yep - it was an important win for Kyler and the overall psyche of the team and what they're building, but losing at the last second could have put us in a MUCH better position from both our pick and future draft capital.

Cards Underground copium at it's finest.
