Why are you taking Kyle Sloter’s word as gospel?

Caleb is the #1 ranked prospect for a reason and he’s going to go #1 in the draft.

So he's basically calling out Kyler. Maybe even Kliff since he was on the Cardinals in 2019

Also possible he's trying to make waves

He was on the practice squad for 3 months. Not a lot of time to get to know the HC & starting QB. Especially being on the PS. Funny how he then went to Detroit & then backed up Blough.

Nothing new for people who know.

The best comp for me is Kyler. He's going to have similar issues coming out but enough talent to do enough to win games.

How long it takes him to learn what he needs will depend on him. Could argue Kyler still hasn't shown he's there yet.

My general feeling is that every year people try to tear apart the presumed number 1 pick so if they bust they can say "told you".

ARZ can go in many directions and still fill holes because they have so many. I can see them taking a replacement for Humphries as they can void out the last 2 years of his deal after this year.

I think the key to the draft is Murray's future. The consensus among local sports pundits is that Kyler is going to have a 8 game interview to see if he can show he can mesh with the new offensive system. If he can't, ARZ will look at Williams and Maye.

If Murray shows in these 8 games that he can successfully operate in the new system then they can focus on on MHJ and BPA with HOU pick.

I just don't see him being bad enough to make them eat his contract.

It's he's not good it's very easy for them to tell themselves that it's lack of practice, coming off injury and a new scheme, and that next season he will be much better with camp under his belt.

Not just eat his contract, though. What if he's pretty bad, they eat the contract, but they also get back a 1st rounder plus some other draft capital and/or a player. If he's that bad, you have to pull the trigger, IMO.

Much of the top 2 QB picks is about style of offense played. Do you want a pocket passer of a 2-way threat. Each can do a little of both styles, but they excel at different theories of the game.

Yeah, but after Murray was below average in the 2nd half of 2021, most of 2022, and in this scenario, most of 2023 - so bad that the Cardinals are willing to eat an enormous cap hit to get rid of him - what GM in his right mind is going to want him and his $50M/year contract AND to give up a #1 pick?!

This is just not a realistic scenario. He'll either be good enough for the Cards to keep, or bad enough for them to take the hit and move on - but don't expect them to also reap great draft assets.

Meh I think that silly. Once someone becomes the presumed #1 pick they garner a great deal more scrutiny. Sometime the additional scrutiny creates unwarranted claims of blemishes (lamar Jackson) and sometimes it uncovers legit limitations (bridgewater).

I have no idea who these mythical posters are that are secretly setting up a year in advance to keep draft scoreboard, but I DO know of one or two posters who like to call out other posters when they’re wrong and try to force others to eat crow, so the irony here is not lost on me. . .

Caleb being Kyler is the new "casual" take. They are nothing alike.

Kyler rarely scrambled to throw at all in college.
Ironically there were people who were disappointed that he didnt show the Manziel hype he was getting out of HS because he couldnt/didnt make those wild scramble plays.

Whether deserved or not the comp for Caleb is Mahomes and Watson. Whether he gets the ideal system, coaching, and picks up things as fast time will tell.

It only takes one GM to chalk it all up to Cardinal incompetence...

I don’t know how you say anything being a casual take when you say this
When most everyone loved Caleb the comp was Mahomes. Now that he hasnt played as well lately Im seeing far more people saying he's Kyler.

Mahomes is the comp. Is it Mahomes without Andy Reid? Is it Mahomes if he never cleaned up his footwork? Is it Mahomes that couldnt play within structure?

Regardless Caleb is much closer game wise to Mahomes than he is to Kyler.

I'd say Watson as well in terms of strength through pass rushers, etc etc .

That was never Kyler's game.

Will we get a 1st?

If I'm a GM I'm thinking "Hold up, the Cards don't think he's good enough for them and they just picked bottom 2 so..."

This offense seems to be very much about timing. Hit the back of your drop and release, or if in shotgun 1, 2, release.

It's part of what worries me about Kyler has he's never really been much of a timing or anticipation guy so far.

I don't think we move off Kyler but if we did it would be Maye I feel. No point taking Kyler 2.0.

Actually, just thinking about it more it occured to me that it's far more risky for Monti to draft a QB than stick with Kyler. If he stock with Kyler he can reasonably say "I was saddled with this huge contract we couldn't move off and at that time we had no choice to see it through for at least a couple more years".

If he drafts Maye or Williams and picks the wrong one he's done. Far safer for Monti's career prospects to stick with Kyler.

Well no, but the comp is to the QB now. Not to the college version. And Kyler is the nearest in many ways.

Not particularly great in the pocket or playing within the system. Better playing off schedule. Both strong arms but not great timing or anticipation.

I think MO positioned ARZ to be prepared in case they deal Murray by having the space to account for the massive cap hit that would get triggered. Again, if Murray looks good and organization is satisfied then they keep Murray and use FA money to fill other needs.

I can now see how teams end up drafting Trubisky over Mahomes and Watson.

Thankfully Drake Maye is actually really good.

Maye has the Blue Devils this week I believe SoonerLou. Duke not looking as scary after getting shut out by Louisville a couple of weeks ago, but at least they are a D1 team.

Another chance for the young gunslinger to showcase his wares.

I feel bad for Williams SoonerLou that he's in with Riley too, since for whatever reason LR teams seems to be allergic to defense.

And like Maye, CW is still just a redshirt Sophomore. I like to bag on both since I'm jelly that some want to move off of K1 for one of them (and that CW bailed on OU, but that's more on LR than the kid), but in truth each can/will be better than they are now.

I think Caleb needs to just keep his head down and keep working. Try to get 1% better every day, and stay out of the media as much as possible (besides his NIL work).

Duke has the #8 ranked defense in the nation. By far the best Maye will play this season.

Duke has to play it's 3rd string QB so is unlikely to win. That is why they got shut out by Louisville. But, these rivalry games in college are sometimes crazy.

Ah, thank you very very much for adding that context ajcardfan. Appreciate you!

So, a nice test for young Drake Maye tomorrow. I'm going to tape it and watch all of NCs offensive snaps!

What I’ve heard about Ossenfort he’ll go for the best QB.
