I don't. The team doesn't know whether a combination of Melton and Johnson will be ready to go in week one, and thus, keeping the vet with a Super Bowl ring is solid insurance. (IMO)
Maybe it’s just me but I thought Murphy-bunting was awful last year. I would want that salary and his seniority off the roster, because he is going to think he is owed playing time. We have enough 2nd and 3rd year guys I think we can do without him.

He actually played pretty well the last half dozen games. But he was bad before that.

As bad as he seemed he was a lot better than Max Melton, we have to at least wait for Max to prove he's good before moving off SMB.

How many CBs do we need?

?????
CB is a very important position as you already know, here's a good comparison imo. It's like recruiting QB's in college, keep recruiting them until you find 2 that can play on that level. You can never have too many & always put the ones that are better tacklers than in coverage on ST.

He was pretty solid in the second half of the season.

We don't need the money, and neither of us knows what he may think.

It's a long, taxing season with many ups and downs.

Let's agree to disagree.

Wild conjecture - maybe he moves to safety at some point.

I actually saw something on him saying some NFL teams wanted to move him to WR.

he played it in HS and briefly at TOSU before moving to CB because they were stacked at WR and thought CB was a better position for him. Yes there are NFL teams projecting him at S and we might be one.

Given our history with Roy Green the WR thing intrigued me, he ran a 10.5 100 meters in HS was apparently a track guy. Not saying he's moving to WR just it was interesting when I saw it I thought maybe he's the speed Wr they were going to draft

Actually saw a 2nd thing on this came across my FB feed since FB knows I'm a Cards fan.

No idea but apparently there were a few people out there talking about possibly moving him to Wr. Safety was definitely a consideration apparently his issue is at CB he's not good at changing directions when shadowing the receiver and that's why teams look at him as more of a S than a CB but if you're a Wr that's not the same issue

Consensus #121. He ranked #66 going into his senior season.

Analysis from a site:
The Cardinals continue to add much-needed depth and talent to their cornerback group. Burke was one of the best zone coverage cornerbacks in the draft class.

Bio:
Burke missed all but one game in his senior high school season due to a dislocated shoulder, but that didn’t stop him from making an immediate impact at Ohio State, as he started 11 games as a true freshman. He went on to start in every season of his four-year career with the Buckeyes.

He’s a natural mover and has plenty of experience in man and zone, but his skill sets lend themselves to a zone-heavy scheme in the NFL. That’s because of his lack of long speed/recovery speed. When Burke can space himself in off coverage correctly, he can mitigate his lack of long speed with some savvy bump-and-run coverage. If he can’t dictate the route with good physicality in press, he can get beat over the top too easily. He put himself in good positions to make tackles but wasn’t a reliable finisher in college. He was more reliable in 2024, though.

Burke recorded just four interceptions in his career, but his forced incompletion rate was high across his first three seasons.
Another corner :).

You can discuss adding more players to an already full room, but seems like a great scheme fit. I guessing Thomas is on the block for a low round pick now.
Not my area of expertise, but we run zone coverage more than most teams and very complicated zones. Both him and the S in the 7th are excellent zone coverage guys.

Good value, high upside. Would not have been my pick, but a pick in range with upside and great scheme fit. I’m not smart enough to argue against if the coaching staff with a HC, whose position speciality is CB, had him as the BPA

Take out SMB and replace him with a younger player
Unfortunately, we lose cap space if we release him now. Post June 1, then it's a slight savings. Maybe a trade, which would be only a $9 million ap savings? Player for player?

I'd rather keep him at this points.

Watching his highlight tape on youtube he has a LONG way to go as a CB half of the breakups in the highlights were uncalled PI that will be called in the NFL. I see what they mean about him struggling to move laterally and shadow. There's also a couple of plays with the ball in the air where he has almost no awareness.
