Absolutely true. He was also the play caller when Kliff had COVID.

Did you read those quotes? Because what he was doing for Drew was what a Qualirt Control coach does. He’s not building and installing game plans; he’s watching film on the next week’s opponent.

What he did with and for Kingsbury is irrelevant to this.

While he's not irreplaceable, it's still a loss. He's well regarded. Here's an excerpt from an article of 25 op future HC candidates under 40. Whipple was listed at 15:

15. Arizona Cardinals Passing Game Specialist Spencer Whipple

Whipple has established himself as a trusted offensive mind with the Arizona Cardinals, where he's been coaching since 2019. Initially brought in by Kliff Kingsbury, Whipple was retained on the new staff under Jonathan Gannon last year. He worked with All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins over three seasons (2020-22).

Now, he is part of the group guiding a young and talented receiver corps in Arizona, featuring Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, and Greg Dortch. His skills were recognized when he was selected as the wide receivers coach for the West team at the Shrine Bowl earlier this year.
He'll reunite with Christian Kirk in Jax. Happy for him.

I don’t believe this is true at all
Depends on the level of "responsible".

Overall responsible - absolutely agree.

But he could be getting the scheme and strategy passed down from Petzing and then coming up the the specific route combinations for Petzing to evaluate.

He could be, but there's zero evidence of that from anything that was posted. It's much more likely that the Passing Game Coordinator/WR Coach Drew Terrell is doing this.

I don't know why we're wishcasting or theorizing what his responsibilities were when it says it pretty plainly that he's a look-ahead guy.

He's so minor that I was literally thinking "I wonder what happened to Spencer Whipple?" less than a week ago then this story popped up. I didn't even realise he was still on the staff and I read practically everything about the team.

No players have talked about him, no coaches have talked about him, no media I have seen has covered what he's doing. The dude was a minor and insignificant part of the staff.

I'm sorry. Totally off topic, but Spencer TOTALLY could be Mr. Whipple's first name.

Crazy how far SI has fallen.
Indeed. The author of that piece, Jeremy Brener, "is an editor, writer and social media manager for several Fan Nation websites". The Bleacher Report piece he used to generate his speculative "news" article is a much more interesting piece, in which the authors are candid that they broke down each team's needs and "take a look at each team's top trade candidates and trade targets based on team needs, salary-cap projections and potential cut candidates. We'll also throw out a hypothetical trade we'd like to see for each franchise."

Given that they list multiple "positions of need", "top trade assets", and "top trade targets" for each team, Jeremy could've cranked out hundreds of "news" pieces drawing from Bleacher Report's work.

The B/R article is actually much more interesting:
Arizona Cardinals

Cap Space (per
Spotrac): $64.4 million

Biggest Positions of Need:
Edge-Rusher, Cornerback, Interior Defender

Top Trade Assets: QB Kyler Murray, OT Jonah Williams, LB Mack Wilson

The Cardinals could be facing an interesting decision at quarterback. In an offseason where the NFL draft is short on quarterback options and the free-agent market could dry up quickly, they are going to be in a position to trade their star quarterback if a team comes in with a good enough offer.

Blowing things up after an 8-9 season is a risky strategy. The Cardinals have a lot of things going for them on offense with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride leading a talented supporting cast. However, Murray threw for just 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his sixth year with the Cardinals. Radio host Colin Cowherd speculated that the Cardinals would consider trading their quarterback this offseason.

A more realistic option might be a summer trade of Jonah Williams. If the Cardinals come away from free agency or the draft with a tackle, then they could clear $10.1 million in cap space if they trade him after June 1.

Top Trade Targets: EDGE Trey Hendrickson, CB Martin Emerson Jr., DT Jordan Davis

Trading away Murray would likely kick off a new stage of rebuilding for the Cardinals. After going 8-9 in Jonathan Gannon's second season, it seems more likely that they would be buyers on the trade market. Another piece on the defensive side of the ball should be the primary target if that's the case.

The defensive line could use the most attention. The Cards were 27th in pressure rate and gave up 4.6 yards per carry. Trading for an aging pass-rusher like Trey Hendrickson would give them a player to build their pass rush around, while Jordan Davis would be an exciting young defensive tackle to help reinforce the run defense.

Hypothetical Trade We'd Love to See: 2025 third-round pick (No. 78 overall) for DT Jordan Davis

Gannon was the defensive coordinator in Philly when the Eagles used a first-round pick on Davis in 2022. The hulking nose tackle hasn't quite lived up to that billing three years into his Eagles tenure. He has become a decent pocket-pushing nose tackle, but he only played 37 percent of the snaps this season.

The Eagles have a Milton Williams extension to worry about, and Jalen Carter will eventually have to get paid. Davis is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract, so now would be the time to trade him if they don't see themselves giving him an extension. He could take on a larger role on a Cardinals defensive line that needs help.
