24 Revival: Fox Orders Pilot for New Series Featuring a New 'Jack'

http://tvline.com/2016/01/15/24-legacy-revival-fox-new-series-pilot-kiefer-sutherland/

Fox is officially making time for more 24, albeit sans original star Kiefer Sutherland.

The network announced on Friday that it has ordered a pilot for 24: Legacy, a potential new series that will feature an “all-new cast of characters” yet retain the “real-time, pulse-pounding, fast-paced format with split screens and complex interweaving storylines” of the original.

According to Fox, the project will center on a military hero who encounters a troubled return to the U.S., compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil. I’m told the hero in question (aka the ‘new Jack Bauer’) will be African-American; casting is currently underway.

“There’s a time jump, a new organization, a completely different story,” said Fox co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena. “It’s a contemporary story about the potential to activate sleeper cells in the United States. There are nods in the pilot to prior CTU agents, but no ongoing characters.”

Behind-the-scenes 24 vets Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Evan Katz will serve as executive producers.

Corey Hawkins to Replace Jack Bauer in FOX’s 24: Legacy

http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/6...k-bauer-in-foxs-24-legacy#PjR8w24IjHmeRif1.99

FOX recently ordered the pilot 24: Legacy, a potential new series installment of the groundbreaking and Emmy Award-winning drama franchise, and now TheWrap reports that Juilliard-trained Straight Outta Compton actor Corey Hawkins will step into Jack Bauer’s shoes as the new central lead. Also known for playing Heath on AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” Hawkins will next be seen in Legendary’s blockbuster Kong: Skull Island, which opens in March of 2017.

In 24: Legacy, Hawkins will play Eric Carter, a man with a troubled past who turned his life around in the Army Rangers, becoming a military hero. After settling with his wife Nicole in Virginia, Carter’s past comes back to haunt him and he’s pulled back into action. He eventually asks CTU for help saving his life and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

The project will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and Gordon’s Teakwood Lane Productions. The pilot will feature an all-new cast of characters and retain the real-time, pulse-pounding, fast-paced format with split screens and complex interweaving storylines, with each episode representing one hour of an eventful day.

I realize that problems=drama, but can't we have a central protagonist that doesn't have to wrestle with their past for a change?

You know, a ham-and-egger that just shows up for work every day...killing scores of terrorists, torturing folks (guilty or not), and breaking every rule in the book to save lives?

It was one of the weakest of the 24 seasons, so no surprise there. It will be interesting to see what they do with the "anthology" idea.

Unfortunately, unless Jack Bauer is involved, I wouldn't expect the anthology would do very well either.

Yeah, ultimately very disappointing. I thought the lead character was really weak... couldn't get into him at all. His brother seemed much more engaging to me. After season was over, my wife and I looked at each other and said "why did we watch this?"
