Our LBs like Haggans and Porter played decent today but playing decent in a 3-4 at the LB position will get your defense killed. The 3-4 is a luxury defense which very few teams can run with success in my opinion because it requires elite LBs to work. Sure it is a superior defense, because it is ran under the assumption that you have elite LBs with a lot of options. Right now Washington is the only player close to being 3-4 capable. What is frustrating is that we have the players to be a solid 4-3. We have changed our offense to degrees to match our WR talent of recent but we have never looked at the defense from the same player personnel standpoint?

the problem is you have a HC that wants a 3-4 & hired a supposed guru who knows the 3-4. We're not gonna change the scheme until Wiz is fired & thats a fact...we all need to accept that

someone give me a starting lineup with the players we have, which you would put in to round out a starting 4-3 defense. Right now, oddly enough, if we stick with this 3-4 as I know Horton will...why not make Adrian Wilson a LB, and his size to me is not too small with his ability, that guy is mean enough and big enough to be better than what we have right now in my opinion and put him along side Washington

Very good post.
This is a copy cat league. Copy the teams that are sucessful. Play within the capabilities of your personel. The Patriots are now playing a 4-3.

I noticed early in the game Wilson actually was in a LB position a few times. He would be more valuable as a hybrid roving LB than a true safety. He stinks in coverage, simple as that.

Another fact that is becoming obvious is we will never have a solid defense under Whiz... but should be ok as long as it is slightly above average.

4-3

RE Holliday

DTs Dockett and Williams, rotate Carter and Eason as backup

LE Calais

Could try Haggans as another backup DE, he was a DE in college and his natural position is a LE pass rusher.

MLB Lenon because he is the QB of the defense currently. Bradley as a backup.

Strong LB Porter. He can't blitz or pressure the QB anymore but he could stop the run and take on a TE straight up.

Weak LB I prefer Washington here. He is the fastest on this team and has a nose for the ball or better yet move AW here and Washington as a backup MLB.

SS if AW is move to LB then definately has to be PP.

corners and FS are the same. However we are still really weak at CB, we need a CB after Toler went down.

Whiz does seem to be stubborn to stay with the 3-4 even though we have 40 year old pass rushers. I don't get how we have Porter and Haggans on the outside when the OLB should be most athletic guys on the field. Big strong dudes with speed and maneuverability.

Actually we have the core of the 3-4 with Calais, Williams, Dockett, Washington, and Lenon. Its our OLBs that we have to replace. Our OLBs can't blitz nor cover, just taking up space and occupying blocks.

I'm just not sold on Lenon or Bradley either. I don't know why the coaches love Lenon. He always seems to be making bad reads to me. I can't wait until further in the year when LB corp will be Schofield, Washington, and Acho being the main 3 guys.
