I really don't think losing Haley would be that big of a deal. He is an OC in title only. This is Whis's Offense. he runs it and he calls the plays.

Isn't Haley the guy that's continually working with the passing game and our WRs? That would seem to me to be the biggest drawback to losing him (which I really don't think will happen). Whis still calls the plays, but I think the HC responsibilities spread him thin this season, and Haley would be the best suited to take some of the load off.

The passing offense took a big step forward this season IMO. Losing Haley would be a substanial hit, in part because of the continuity issue.

While I wish every assistant we have gets the opportunity to further his career to the max of his ability and think it would be a tremendous thing for the Cardinal franchise gain the reputation as a wonderful place to develop coaching skills as a springboard to bigger and better things -

But could we please just buy one or two years of breathing room to stabilize our pool of assistant coaches , so that for every one of our guys who moves onward and upward, we'll have at least one guy behind him ready to step up and do an even better job?

Like Totally Red said, we can deny permission to talk to any of our assistant coaches, unless they are interviewing for a head coaching position.

The only guy I see that could leave as a HC from our staff is Grimm. We can hold all the others to their contracts if we want to.

clancy pendergast is awesome, you guys just don't appreciate the effort, how quick we forget the dave maginnis era , it would be a set back to lose him he is innovative and makes due with what he has to work with lets get him a shut down corner and see what happens same with grimm he has got to make players who have quickly bought into a losing tradition believe in themselves again, it takes all the experience and the x's and o's that grimm brings to the table plus a bit of a sports psychologist\therapist to make these players with fragile egos believe in themselves again he will do fine,
we must do what it takes to keep this team and coaching staff together , even with all its warts it is the best we have had in decades and is capable of taking us deep into the playoffs,
thats my take anyway and i have followed these bunch of malcontents for decades so take it for what its worth

the only one i wouldn't lose sleep over is haley as someone pointed out whiz calls the plays anyway so he is a coordinater in title only

What if we lost Todd Haley but gained Cam Cameron instead?

Neither would make that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things?

If they are promotions I assure you they will be allowed to go without any fight. If "The Walrus" hangs em up that will of course be another opening.

My guess is the first one to go is going to be Carthon to Miami as OC...particulary if either Dallas guy gets the job. I don't believe if Haley gets it that Parcells will take two of our guys since HE was the one who recommended both of them.

According to rumors, Haley is 2nd on Parcells list to replace Cameron behind only Sparano (sp?). Believe it or not Maurice Carthon is also on Parcells rumored short list

So, when's Pendy going to be hired away? Isn't he such a huge head coaching candidate? :sarcasm: I think the Pendy manlove that some have on here is the only real source of the 'Pendy is considered HC material' stuff.

Edit: Apologize for the tone, at least...it sounds pretty mean, but it wasn't meant like that. I mean it lightheartedly, I swear ;)

Who'll Be The Next Dolphins Coach?

Now that Cam Cameron has been fired, new Miami boss Bill Parcells needs a head coach. It's pretty easy to see where he'll look, at least in terms of guys he knows. -- John Clayton

Tony SparanoDallas CowboysAssistant Head CoachSparano works with the Cowboys offensive line and helps with the play-calling. Jason Garrett gets a lot of credit for the team's offensive success this season, but Sparano gets understated credit for his contributions. Having coached in Dallas for four seasons prior to his departure a year ago, Parcells knows Sparano's value, and so do other teams. He's a candidate in Atlanta and Baltimore.

Maurice CarthonArizona CardinalsRunning Backs CoachCarthon has been a coach whom Parcells has been grooming for years. He rose to the coordinator level at Cleveland but couldn't turn around the Browns' offense. He was offensive coordinator for Parcells for two years in Dallas.

Romeo CrennelCleveland BrownsHead CoachThis might be a long shot because he's under contract in Cleveland, but things could play out that he could be traded. The Browns have to decide whether this is the time to give Crennel a contract extension. He's been there for three years and the players love him. After their 10th win, linebacker Willie McGinest gave Crennel a game ball on behalf of the team and thanked him for believing in them. If the Browns consider working out a trade, Parcells would welcome the move. Crennel was his defensive coordinator and one of his favorite and most loyal assistants.

Todd BowlesDallas CowboysSecondary CoachParcells knows good, young coaches when he sees them and he groomed him for two years in the secondary in Dallas. Bowles is ready to take that next step as a coordinator. If the situation is right, Parcells might take a chance on him as a head coach.

Todd HaleyArizona CardinalsOffensive CoordinatorHere's another young coach Parcells developed and he's a good one. You've seen Haley along the sidelines in Cowboys games taking abuse from Terrell Owens, but Parcells and Owens were like oil and water. Those problems carried over to Haley, who was his position coach.

The write-up on Haley intrigues me. I've sort of bought into Whis being the culprit in terms of slowing things down on offense and being uber-sensitive about maintaining aggression on offense. But when you look at how Dallas exploded this year compared to when Haley was there and add it to what the Card's have dealt with this year...I think I'd like to see Haley go to the Dolphins. Whis was never known as conservative when he was in Pittsburgh but there was virtually no hint of the type of stuff he was doing there.

Whis and Haley both came from conservative coaching tress but I think there's a big difference between the Cowher's and the Parcell's.

Stout, why not email Darren Urban and ask him about Pendergast's contract status? Darren always answers. His email address is on his blog.

Supposedly, Clancy's contract is up but sneakily, Graves and Mike Bidwill have given him a three year extension and thus shoved him down Whisenhunt's throat.

Enquiring minds need to know. Since this rumor was posted on ASFN about a week ago, I've been hoping somebody would try to track it down.

Darren or Kent Somers or both will probably answer this question.

I'm interested because if a change is to be made in DC, Whisenhunt better act fast. Lots of the best guys get snapped up quickly at this time of year. If we dally, we could get screwed.

Anybody else interested enough to track this down? I'm not too concerned either way but many are and it shouldn't be hard to get an answer.

As far as assistants gone, my prediction holds at zero, with Pendergast being the one with the highest probability of departure.

If Grimm or Haley were serious head coaching candidates, wouldn't you think they'd have been interviewed, or at least contacted, by now?

From Somers blog today,

All of the Cardinals assistants are under contract through at least 2008, meaning the Cardinals don't have to let them interview for other jobs, even if it means a promotion from a position assistant to a coordinator or from a coordinator to an assistant head coach.

Which means Clancy was given an extension, as was the one other Green staff member Rick Courtright.

Also from the same blog he states pretty...

"Dennis Green was turned down by several teams in his quest to assemble a staff. So was Ken Whisenhunt, who wanted to hire some of his former colleagues with the Steelers. As a result, the Cardinals don't feel like helping anyone else.

No one is leaving for anything but a head coaching job, and With Dallas or any of the other teams not giving any of our guys a call yet even though they arleady have long list of guys they will interview it is a pretty sure bet that none of our coaches are leaving.

Cool. Thanks, Joe.

Guess Whisenhunt wasn't displeased with Pendergast. Either that or Mike and Rod shoved Clancy down Whisenhunt's throat and he meekly went along with it. That scenario, if it occurred, doesn't say much good about Whisenhunt.

Wonder how Mike Jurecki will spin it. If anybody really knows, he'll know. :D
