There are three things that many on this board accept as truth that are being exposed today, IMO.

1. We can "get by" for the season with DA. He's not a capable NFL qb.
2. We can get by with tht. It's SO apparent that beanie is a far superior talent and we're a different team when he's not running the ball. When healthy, he's a man-child.
3. It's taken me a while to type this out on my phone and I've had a few beers, so I forget no. 3. But I had one; it'll come to me later.

I would agree with all but #2. he's playing well buts it's been an all or nothing. When he's gotten the big runs the holes were huge. I think THT would have had large chunks of real estate as well.

The third myth was rattled out of my head by the td pass. Myth: the long pass is essential to this offense. I think the offense is predicated on short passes that augment the run game, and anderson's "strength" is wasted with this design.

If the LONG pass is so essential it makes you wonder why our OL is built so RUN based doesn't it? The entire offensive system doesn't make any sense. I get the sense that it was originally built with Leinart in mind as the QB and then something happened, Leinart is gone and now we have Scud being fitted into an offense he can't run.

It is so discombobulated that this offense will never get going.

The thing with the long passes is that just like every other type of pass Anderson doesn't put any air under them so the WR can run under it. If the guy is wide open and the rope hits him in the hands it works, if the guy has any coverage at all he just overthrows him and the guy has no chance to get to it.

Even the 2 PI's on throws to Stephen Williams, there wasn't enough air under them Williams just did a great job of creating contact.

That's why I don't care how strong DA's arm is, he'll never be any good if he can only make the line drive throws. The TD pass to FItz was great, low bullet that nobody but Fitz had a chance at. But you get 4-5 chances a game to do that usually there's a defender in or near the throwing lane that you have to throw OVER and that's where Anderson just can't do it.

I think 8-8 is the best you can hope for with DA. However, I am not sure what the alternative is.

Max Hall? Won't help this year.

Lets assume for a moment that he is the next Drew Brees. Brees didnt play his first year. He spent the next two years posting QB ratings in the 70s (for comparison, DA has a 70 rating yesterday).

I get that nobody is happy with DA, but what is a realistic alternative THIS YEAR?

I know a QB that is perfectly suited for a short passing game. Wish we could get him but he is stuck in Houston.

It's not luck Shane, Beanie will find a hole if there is one to be had. And Beanie will consistently bowl guys over for extra yards when he has the body position angle. I do like Timmy, but he's not the creator that Beanie is.

THT dances around when running up the middle. It's not a matter of luck for Beanie. THT has many strengths, but traditional 4 yards and a cloud of dust runs are not one of them.

Are you saying that TH stats and his consistent over 4 yards per carry the last two years and 2008 playoffs is luck?

Not at all. He is great running off tackle and to the outside when he gets his blocks. Not saying he doesn't have strengths, he does, but Beanie is better as a straight line up the middle back. I'd take Hightower any day on a stretch play or an off-tackle run.

I truly do believe that Beanie is the better pure runner. He just needs to stay healthy and show that game breaking ability we keep hearing about.

THT is running at a 6 yard per carry clip, so far. A reality, not a myth, that I'm happy to have.

Already down from the 7+ going into this game. That 80 yard run really inflated things. Granted you can't take those away if you take away long runs then every back looks mediocre. But THT needs to keep breaking long ones or he'll end the season below 4 YPC. Mark my words.

P.S. He's 3.79 YPC on his 34 other carries besides the 80 yarder for anyone who wondered.

Just like last season? where he ended under 4.0 right? Oh wait..... ;)

You could say that about any RB back that breaks long runs. If I take away Beanies 20 and 30 yard runs he would be averaging 2.0 yards per carry. Its an asinine argument.

Which is exactly what I said in the post.

Last season we had a passing game that was effective enough to make things easier for the RBs. We won't have that this year. Additionally I have yet to see this OL really be "better" in RB. Equal at best. THT, like I said, needs to get those long runs to keep his average up. He has a few 50+ yarders each year. Beanie seems to have a few 20-30 yarders a game, but lacks the 50+ yarders.

Every RB has to break some long runs to keep a decent YPC in the NFL. Its no secret. That's why it kills me when people say "if you take away this run or that run it would only be this"

Yea you said it but then continued to harp on it. Seemingly disregarding what you said.

Would love to have Schaub as well, but we couldn't offer them enough when all the have is Orlovsky and Leinart behind him.

Right but there's two different styles of RBs. Theres the AP types who's "big" runs are more of the 20-30 yd type but come more frequently and there's the Chris Johnson's who have the 50+ runs but tend to get less on the runs where there isn't the big hole than the AP types. I wasn't stating that THT doesn't deserve his big runs, just stating that he relies more heavily on those major plays than beanie. People who are saying "THT has 6 YPC" are equally guilty of overvaluing him based on one play that some are of undervaluing him for taking that play away. If a player gives you one good play every 4 weeks and nothing else but his averages look great, he isn't a superstar player. He's Devin Hester.

Who here ever proclaimed TH to be a superstar?

No one, someone earlier was using his 6 YPC as cause to pimp him. Point was that it's an inflated number that won't last the whole season. He's a solid back. Not a 6 YPC back which would make his Chris Johnson of last season.
