I know that these guys are worried about their health, and he had lingering issues, but you don't see this level of mass retirement anywhere else. I wonder if those guys are angry with the organization.

Well yeah, clearly this and not the fact that Harbaugh just literally and figuratively wore everyone out:

Maybe the plan was to let them have Dockett, he goes in there and talks a bunch of guys into retirement, then we trade them Bobby Massie for DD and a 3rd or something.

Obviously what I said is incredibly stupid and not what i remotely think actually happened, but it would be the ultimate troll against the 9ers.

Nope - Davis said he is returning the prorated portion of his signing bonus and won't get his annual salary if he's not on the as of roster week 1. Also, didn't he sign a long term contract last offseason? If so, he can't just take a year off to break his contract to sign with another team next year.. the Niners would still own his rights.

I almost feel bad for the 9ers, well not almost but kinda in some I'm a long suffering Cards fan so I can empathize with their offseason this year. Remember when we lost Rolle and Los and.......all in one offseason.

9ers are going to finish last in the division this year and I put the over/under at 6 wins.

Agreed, but after you've made a few mil, if people told you that you were different, would you ever stop to re-evaluate?

If you retire, you don't get paid any of the contract. If a player sits out and then decides to play again, they return to the team they retired from with the same amount of contract they were obligated to before they retired.


So, there is not a financial or business reward to a player for retiring. If there was, you would see it all the time.



Personally, I just think it's bad luck. But these retirements over health is going to happen more, not less.
