Harbaugh had much of the Whiz type luck there. He came into a good team instilled with discipline by Singletary, took them to a SB and then fell apart
He inherited a good defense and built a good offense. He's apparently a control freak which is causing issues now personality wise but he's still a great coach.
It worked in college because he had the kids for 4 years and at Stanford he had a certain type of kid. IN the NFL you have to have better athletes but that often means you're dealing with guys who simply don't want to tolerate a guy like Harbaugh for too long.
He's been pretty successful there, if they changed coaches my guess is they'd find out the hard way how good he actually is.
