Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross has traveled to the West Coast in an urgent effort to convince Stanford's Jim Harbaugh to become his next coach, according to two sources.

Ross was accompanied by general manager Jeff Ireland and former NFL executive Carl Peterson to make the pitch to Harbaugh to replace Tony Sparano as the team's head coach, the sources said. Ross is willing to make Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in the NFL, which would place his salary in the $7-to-$8-million range, the sources said, after receiving a signal from the Stanford coach that he was now willing to listen seriously to the team's presentation

49ers not officially out on Harbaugh, not yet anyway, but they're now prepared to move on. They won't compete financially with Fins.

:lmao: best news all year

They better come really BIG. Because I bet the 49ers would match that salary. Plus they have to get him to uproot and go across the country.

I seriously doubt they are out. Rumors last night were that the 9ers were willing to pay in the range.

Yeah but Florida has no income tax!!!!

I love that argument. I can hardly believe that matters to someone who is about to sign a multi million dollar contract.

Don't think that even plays into it when you are making that kind of money and you have to uproot your entire family. Especially for most people.

Oh man that would be nice. I can watch the Harbaugh experiment up close here in Miami AND not have to deal with him in division.

Makes sense for the Phins. They are not selling tickets and have to compete for dollars with the juggernaut Miami Heat.

I would LOVE to wake up to this new tomorrow morning. Time to say a night time prayer :)

I think you would be surprised how much of a difference it makes, even when your NOT making millions of dollars.

Trust the Florida local ;)

NFL source: 49ers have had initial discussions with former Denver coach Josh McDaniels in lieu of possible Harbaugh-Miami deal.

tweeted by Tim Kawakimi.

I know what it does I don't pay any in Nevada either ;)

But if I was making 7 million a year I honestly wouldn't care. I would live where is the best for my family regardless of the taxes.

The 9ers signing McDaniels as their next head coach would be like the Cardinals signing Marc Bulger to be their next QB.

Nah we would severely make out in that deal. Mcdaniels would promptly trade away Crabtree, Gore and Vernon Davis. Which is the equivalent of what he did in Denver.

Some fans want to be pissed so much, they are killing the Cardinals for moves that haven't even happened yet.

First off I don't want to be pissed but a horrendous 5-11 season does that to me. I guess I should be grateful it wasn't 2-14 like it easily could have been. Secondly, I was being facetious. And lastly the fact that it's being reported that Bulger is a legit option at this point tells me this staff has not learned a thing from this past season and is doomed to repeat history which will inevitably piss me off more. I guess I should set my standards lower for a two time division champion coming off a ten win season staring a gift wrapped third title in the face. That way I won't be pissed when they fail.

It's not like he's been at Stanford for 20 years.

Since starting a family...he has played in multiple NFL cities (Chicago, Indianapolis, Baltimore, San Diego, Detroit, and Carolina), assisted his dad at Western Kentucky as an NCAA-certified unpaid assistant coach during the last 8 years of his NFL career, and dedicated himself to charity work in Chicago, Indianapolis, and Kentucky.

He's uprooted his family plenty of times for less money than he'll be offered this time. I don't think their roots are too deep anywhere.

Hopw long he has been there is really irrelevant. He has been in Stanford for four years and in that area. He may finally have found a place he WANTS to call home. Where they just plain and simply like and dont want to leave. That is always a very real possibility. Some people get tired of the moving.

Then again a couple million reasons could sway a family.

It's much more than a couple million if the rumors of $7-8 annually are true. No state income tax in Florida plus difference in cost of living makes the Dolphins offer at least double that of the Niners. He'd be leaving a ton of dough on the table to stay in the Bay Area.

My point exactly. :)
