Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross has traveled to the West Coast in an urgent effort to convince Stanford's Jim Harbaugh to become his next coach, according to two sources.

Ross was accompanied by general manager Jeff Ireland and former NFL executive Carl Peterson to make the pitch to Harbaugh to replace Tony Sparano as the team's head coach, the sources said. Ross is willing to make Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in the NFL, which would place his salary in the $7-to-$8-million range, the sources said, after receiving a signal from the Stanford coach that he was now willing to listen seriously to the team's presentation

49ers not officially out on Harbaugh, not yet anyway, but they're now prepared to move on. They won't compete financially with Fins.

Makes sense for the Phins. They are not selling tickets and have to compete for dollars with the juggernaut Miami Heat.

First off I don't want to be pissed but a horrendous 5-11 season does that to me. I guess I should be grateful it wasn't 2-14 like it easily could have been. Secondly, I was being facetious. And lastly the fact that it's being reported that Bulger is a legit option at this point tells me this staff has not learned a thing from this past season and is doomed to repeat history which will inevitably piss me off more. I guess I should set my standards lower for a two time division champion coming off a ten win season staring a gift wrapped third title in the face. That way I won't be pissed when they fail.

Since starting a family...he has played in multiple NFL cities (Chicago, Indianapolis, Baltimore, San Diego, Detroit, and Carolina), assisted his dad at Western Kentucky as an NCAA-certified unpaid assistant coach during the last 8 years of his NFL career, and dedicated himself to charity work in Chicago, Indianapolis, and Kentucky.

He's uprooted his family plenty of times for less money than he'll be offered this time. I don't think their roots are too deep anywhere.

Hopw long he has been there is really irrelevant. He has been in Stanford for four years and in that area. He may finally have found a place he WANTS to call home. Where they just plain and simply like and dont want to leave. That is always a very real possibility. Some people get tired of the moving.

It's much more than a couple million if the rumors of $7-8 annually are true. No state income tax in Florida plus difference in cost of living makes the Dolphins offer at least double that of the Niners. He'd be leaving a ton of dough on the table to stay in the Bay Area.
