Link was a touch goofy. Had to manually edit to get in, FYI.

It's kinda funny how so many SF fans think they will win the division starting J.T. O'Sullivan, Tony Wragge and Bryant Johnson on offense.

When O'Sullivan actually starts and wins a meaningful game, then I might begin to take notice.

Sounds a little like 2001 for us?

good for them

goodness knows that as a Card fan, the high point in optimism for the season can be right up until 30 seconds prior to that opening kick off

Amen, Brotha.

Plus, I'm not 100% confident we win this game anyways. It's on the road, and they're going to throw things at us that we're not very good at stopping. Such as using Gore as a receiver out of the backfield and then stretching our defense with some long passes and then going to Gore on a draw. Maybe with our improved personnel on defense it'll be a different story, but we don't have a fantastic record against Martz's offenses, IRRC.

You don't. The last time we matched up with a Martz-led offense, they got -18 yards rushing.

That said, a road game against anyone will be tough for us to win.

Only a Cardinals fan can ask this question with a straight face: did we win that game?

And, what's the overall record against him. I suspect it's pretty low.

Let me also say that I think we will win this game, but I just don't think it's a lock.

Not sayin' anything till after the game.

The Niner vs. Cardinals is a division game. ANYTHING can happen.

Throw everything out the window cause it seems the team that SHOULD win never does.

You know of course anything could happen...But lets face it folks...if we can't beat a team that went 5-11 last year...and scored 211 points for the season...We don't deserve to go anywhere. I know we have struggled with them...but that is the point...If we are improved and a winning team. We must beat the teams we should. Do you know we opened as a 3 point favorite on the road. If this game was at home we would be an 8 to 9 point favorites. All home teams usually get +3 points for being home. Thus why Pre season games are always 3 to 2 point games.

The Cardinals have a better offense and defense. Our front 7 is better and the secondary is close. But Sullivan didn't start at Detroit and Alex Smith played so Bad...that JT had to start for the 49er's. His first pro start and against our defense that has so many wrinkles and blitz schemes....We should confuse him enough to limit many big plays.

I say Cards 31-13 and I truley believe that is what the score will be.

\\If we can't beat SF, the house will start to fall in on HC K Whiz. His decision at QB will be scrutinitized even more.
We should beat SF by 20 pts.

I also remember the last time he led the Rams against us, we won 34-7.

Holy crap. If this board drinks Kool Aid, that 9ers board huffs paint thinner.

Regardless of whether or not we win this week, the SF folks are seriously wacky if they think that team is winning 4 games this year.

It will be an interesting game from a couple points of view:

working in the 49ers favor:

1. Its a week one game. Lots of whacky results in week one as teams cook up all sorts of stuff in training camp that has never been seen on film.

2. O'Sullivan's first game. Journeyman QBs can have a one, two or three game run of success -- and then film gets out on them. Defensive coordinators adjust to take away their strengths and they come crashing down.

3. To quote Charles Barkley --"the problem with playing bad teams early in the season is that they dont know they are bad yet".

working against the 49ers:

1. Lots of change for the 49er offense. Two new offensive linemen, others working in new spots. New starting receivers, a new Qb -- all running a brand new offense that places an emphasis on precision. Odds are it doesnt click in week one.

2. I think the 49ers are putting way too much faith in attributing the offensive problems to scheme rather than mediocre personnel.

3. I think with all the pieces Clancy has on D, there will be lots of looks from the Cardinal D that SF has never seen before on film.

Lets not forget that we lost 2 games to this team. First game of the season on enemy ground ... anything could happen. And we had better not be over confident or the 49ers could surprise. I am with the theory that anything can happen so you have to bring your "A" game each and every week if you want to be successful in this league.

The things that scare me the most:

1) It's a road game.
2) It's the 1st game. Defenses tend to be ahead of offenses early on in the season. Regardless of what people think of the Niners, they have a quality defense that is capable of slowing our passing game early in the season.
3) Injuries at center and at the middle of our defense.

With that said, don't expect a blowout. It will probably be similar as last seasons game one, low scoring. I hope we beat them 20-17. I would love to get payback for last season and spank their butts 35-10, but don't count on it.
