Addendum:

Whisenhunt also has a SB ring as an offensive coordinator. Exactly how Martz won his.

Just stopping by to say hi...

Here's is my two cents in this whole thing:

QB Warner vs O'Sullivan--The bottom line is that WE don't know what we have in JT except for what we have seen in preseason. This is a perfect case of "In Martz we Trust". He alone pushed for JT to get the reps over Smith and Hill. This is the case where we as Niner fans ask, "Which JT will appear...the one in Oak or the one in Chi?"

As for Warner, he will definately KILL us if we give him time (that can be said with many NFL QBs). This board is correct in identifying our deficiencies in the run and pass-rush game. All I can say is that last year at this time, our pass rush was non-existent for the 1st units...this year was very different. We were able to generate a pass-rush with just 4 down linemen and using DB blitzing and we haven't seen the whole extent of what they can apply. If they do bother Warner all game, you guys will bring in Leinart to try to save the day as is customery for all Warner backups when he fails.

AZ D--I know you have a ? at one of your DT spots, but Dockett can dominate. The edge rushers can bring heat...bytheway, I like LaBoy and hoped we could have had him in the offseason. Our OL has to deal with the middle and edges or JT will have a long day no matter what.

SF OL--I really think that you guys are underestimating our tackles in Staley and Jennings. If Jennings holds up (big if for Mr. Glass as we call him), then we can neutralize the edges. My concern is our middle. Even though you guys make fun of him, Wragge has been solid to the point of taking over the spot for the injured Baas. Now, Baas and Snyder will be competing for the other G spot (no pun intended). Heitmann seems to have recovered and did well during the preseason. No matter what, folks, if JT has time, Martz's offense can explode just from a historic perspective...it has happened already with Bulger, Kitna and your very own Warner. I know Warner has been saying not to under-estimate a Martz O.

Gore vs James--No doubt Gore is the better back at this point...just take a look at the overall yards gained by NFL backs over the last three years since he's entered the NFL. I think Gore can become scary good especially the way Martz will use him. If James was younger, I can see the arguement there, but he's just not as explosive. He can still do damage, but I really think that he may have some difficulty this year vs strong running Ds. Gore will do it on the ground or through the air...He's a fantasy dream this year, IMO.

Anyway, there are some tidbits from your rival site at 49erswebzone.com. May the best team win and good luck with no injuries...seriously, I hate when that happens to teams.

IMO, it will be a good divisional game! Cheers  and...

Go 49ers!

The irony is there's a blurb in today's SJ Mercury where they say Johnson is the leading choice to be the 3rd WR now that they gave up on Lelie.

So they signed him to a nice FA contract to be the backup to Isaac Bruce and Arnaz Battle? They wanted him to start but he hasn't been healthy enough to take the job, hell he might be behind rookie 6th rounder Josh morgan right now.

We'll miss Johnson he made plays for us at times but we correctly had him pegged as not a starting WR.

You don't. The last time we matched up with a Martz-led offense, they got -18 yards rushing.

That said, a road game against anyone will be tough for us to win.

We were/are never a good road favorte ATS...duh!! A three point line makes me very suspect.

I looked up BJs stats from last year--

a stunningly inconsequential 46 catches for 528 yards and 2 tds.

and this is with being the clear #2 for 4 games Boldin missed, and the #1 when Fitz and Boldin missed a game.

for comparison: Jerheme Urban had 22 /329 /2 in his extremely limited duty.

Only a Cardinals fan can ask this question with a straight face: did we win that game?

And, what's the overall record against him. I suspect it's pretty low.

Let me also say that I think we will win this game, but I just don't think it's a lock.

Post of the freaking year!!! Took me awhile to stop laughing.

Go Cards!!!

...if we can't beat a team that went 5-11 last year... We must beat the teams we should.
And that's what really hurts. Losing those TWO games last year to the niners, when you know they really should have been 3-13, which would have made the Cards...gulp...10-6!!!

Let's hope that was some chalkboard talk. Every game is important.

Holy crap. If this board drinks Kool Aid, that 9ers board huffs paint thinner.

Regardless of whether or not we win this week, the SF folks are seriously wacky if they think that team is winning 4 games this year.
well as a neutral here I'll give my thoughts. I agree with most on here and disagree with few. therefore I'm not replying to anyone directly. but what do you expect the 9er fans to think. Most of them have seen the 9ers have a lot of success and expect them to win more than 4 games even in down years. My best friend is a 9er fan and he doesn't think too highly of them currently, but I know he expects them to win games because of past glory. So no they don't huff paint thinner lol.

As far as this year's expectations. Last season I expected the cardinals to destroy the niners both games and it didn't happen. So I don't expect that they will win big, but I do think they should be favored by a point or two. The 9ers have a solid defense that may be overlooked because of how horrible their offense is. I think En Fuego made a great point about journeyman QB's. this isn't alex smith or matt leinart of years past playing in their debut games. this is an unknown guy who has nothing to lose and has had time to sit back and pick up the NFL game from a unique perspective. Those make for dangerous situations...and these type of players seem to have better results initially. when compared to higher touted inexperienced guys.

I don't see anything wrong for the 49er fans to hope. the defense and offense should improve. and they don't play in a brutal division. there is hope. especially BEFORE the season starts. we'll see shortly. can't wait.

Good post. Welcome!

But no mention of a WR comparison? :p

C'mon now...Fitz and Bouldin, IMO, make up one of the top WR duos in the NFL and with Johnson last year being #3...WOW!!!!! I think Breaston AND Doucet will pan out well for you guys.

As far as we go, we are STILL trying to find our WR core since letting Braylon Edwards go for Alex Smith (that's another topic for a different day). However, I am very please with the five WRs in Bruce, Johnson, Battle, Morgan and Hill. Each have done well with this new scheme and each can have excellent YAC, too. Moreover, Bruce all ready knows this O so he will do well. I really like Johnson...looks like a keeper...we'll know come Sunday, won't we. Who really stands out though, is our sixth round rook in Josh Morgan. It seems we may have found a gem like you guys with Bouldin.

In am a die-hard 49er fan and love my team dearly, but in no way shape or form does our new WR core compare to the established successes of Fitz and Bouldin. However, I am hoping that will change starting Sunday.:)

That said, thank you very much for your welcome and I look forward to returning...

That really hurt you guys last year, removing you from playoff contention. I also read that you guys have a much tougher schedule than last year having the weakest so you are absolutely right...every single game counts especially this one.

That's why there is sooooo much riding on this first game...man, I love the NFL!!!!

Good luck.

So you have a whole bandwagon circle of friends network? ;)
I guess. we are both from dallas....as are our parents. his dad loves the 49ers...mine loves the cowboys. the bandwagon cicle kept going. to their credit his dad did live in SF for a long while. if we were born in arizona I'd probably be a cards fan and he'd probably be a lions fan. most of my current friends and family are from all over the country and like different teams. Most of my native texas family are cowboys though.
