The Denver Nuggets made a very shocking decision to move on from head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth on Tuesday afternoon.

But perhaps the decision should not have come as such a surprise. Just yesterday, For The Win's Robert Zeglinski wrote about how both Malone and Booth were not fated for much longer in Denver.

As the Nuggets prepare for a postseason run in the Western Conference, they will have an interim head coach leading the way for the playoffs.

Other candidates include Steve Nash and Mike Brown, who could make some sense depending on what happens with Denver's front office.

Here are a few of the candidates who could make sense as potential replacements for Malone:

1. David Adelman

The clubhouse favorite for this position should go to David Adelman, who has coached for the Nuggets since 2016 and won a championship with the organization in 2023. He is known as the coordinator of the offense for Denver, which currently ranks as the second-best in the West. Adelman will now take over as the interim coach in Malone's sudden absence.

2. Taylor Jenkins

The Grizzlies also made a stunning decision to fire their head coach, Taylor Jenkins, before their upcoming playoff run as well. That means Jenkins will enter this offseason as a free agent and should at least get some considering if the Nuggets decide to look for external candidates.

3. Ryan Saunders

Another candidate if the Nuggets to look internally is Ryan Saunders, who is currently an assistant coach on the Nuggets staff. He has worked for Denver since 2022 and has previous head coaching experience with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

4. Wes Unseld Jr.

One external name to watch is Wes Unseld Jr., who is currently an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls. He coached with Denver from 2015 until 2021 until he got his first chance to become a head coach with the Washington Wizards until last season.

5. Micah Nori

Micah Nori is another name that the Nuggets may consider after he impressed while briefly taking over for injured Timberwolves head Chris Finch during the playoffs last season. Nori was reportedly in consideration for a head coaching gig with the Cavaliers this past offseason but remained with Minnesota. The assistant was on staff for the Nuggets from 2015 until 2018.
