I hope the boys put that one up for the whole year. We are still the toy of the people who know everything about us and our great coach. Yea, we will not be able to compete this year. The Niners are GREAT! THere the best defense, offense, ST and QB. What a team!!!!!! They are improved and they always give us trouble. This year we play them twice as usual. Somehow we should not play those games they are much too tough!

I think most here are underestimating the Niners. They have played us close & beat us whether they are bad or average. They have a pretty damn good defense & their offense is getting better & could very well be better than last years. To think they can't overtake us with all the changes we've made while upgrading in certain areas is naive on our part.

Clearly with Warner retiring the West is wide open this year. SF is a solid team. Right now I think it's 50/50 on either the Cards or the Niners winning the West. Even Seattle has an outside chance at making a push.

It all comes down to Matt Lienart. If he can run the offense and protect the ball we have a chance to win the West again. If he starts throwing 2 or more picks a game we will be in a world of hurt.

These two posts are spot on... IMHO, it ALL is about Matty. Nothing else we have done this past offseason will matter one bit if Matty can't step up... It's that simple and it seems very clear to me that the national, so-called "experts" are not at all confident that Matty is up to the task...

I agree and i dont think anyone is underestimating the Niners or anyone else. But really 63% v 18% isnt right. It will be pretty even this year and that is IF Matt steps up and does well.

What we do have now is winners and that counts for a lot in my book.....bring it on. :jedi:

I'm optimistic . . . but that doesn't mean the Cards can't get their glutes handed to them.

49ers: Paper Champions once again in 2010!

And so were we from the time DG arrived until Wiz's 2nd season. Alot of peeps picked the Cards to have their "breakout year" for several seasons. Eventually the prognosticators will be right & it could very well happen this season...or not. The divsion to me is a pure toss up between us & the Niners & wouldn't be suprised either way on who wins the West.

The thing is the whole division is stronger so whilst we may not go 6-0 or 4-2 like the last two years i can see it all being a lot closer. What we have to do is beat the team (SF) thats if potting the most pressure on. I can see Hawks giving a much better account of themselves this year too if MH plays all year. Rams are better too.

Cant wait

Let's just put it this way:

Playoff Experience (games):

QB Alex Smith = 0
RB Frank Gore = 0
WR Michael Crabtree = 0
TE Vernon Davis = 0
NT Abreyu Franklin = 0
LB Patrick Willis = 0
LB Aaron Brooks = 0
LB Parys Haralson = 0

Get the drift?

Playoff Experience (games)

QB Matt Leinart = 1
RB Tim Hightower = 6
RB Beanie Wells = 2
T Levi Brown = 6
G Alan Faneca = 14
C Lyle Sendelin = 6
G Reggie Wells = 6
DE Darnell Dockett = 6
DE Calais Cambell = 6
OLB Joey Porter = 14
CB DRC = 6
CB Greg Toler = 2
S Adrian Wilson = 6

Get my drift?

Play the games.

Big game experience and preparation matters.

One Brett Favre miracle and one dropped TD pass is the only difference between the whiners winning the west last year and the Cards. To over look them is foolhardy at best.

That said screw the whiners.

That is not true, they finished 2 games behind so I don't know why people keep repeating this line.

Secondly, you get paid to win...that throw was not a miracle hailmary pass, it was a perfectly placed rope because the niners gave the receiver a small window for Favre to make that great throw.

Noone is overlooking the Niners and I think with Warner retiring we are at worst even with that team and not behind.

Thankfully it will be decieded on the field. Both the Niners and the Cards should take eachother seriously.

If Niners fans want to keep crowing about their two wins last season, then they must take into account the Cards are 4-2 vs. their team over the past 3 seasons....

I am never going to be scared of a team that has Jimmy Raye as OC and Alex Smith as QB. The 49ers barely put up any points despite being gifted 7 turnovers against us....IMO 9ers doomed themselves when they hired such a crappy OC. They either have to choose to go with continuity on their offense which they have lacked for the past 7 years or stay with a bad offensive system.

We are actually 2-4 against their team over the past three seasons. :S The 49ers/Cardinals series has seen a cycle of a different team sweep every year. This is our year. (hopefully)

If we are going to play "what ifs" Then you also have to consider the Tennessee game. VY does not complete that last second pass, we are 11-5

Good point. Look at the last four 49er/Cardinal games. In 2008 Warner threw for 4 TDs and no INTs and the Cards won both games. In 2009 Warner had 4 INTs, 2 in each game, and the Cards lost both.

I have to agree that the Jimmy Raye hire shocked me also and unless the NFL is going back in time 30 years I don't see the whiners going any further than a possible NFC West title which is a coin flip this year until we CARDS fans see what we have in Matt.

The whiners won't be able to come from behind any early deficit with the style Jimmy runs.Raye has never learned to adjust to the talents his teams have unless it fits HIS style.

:lame:

Come on. Are you seriously trying to play the "if & but" game with Cardinals fans ?

Years upon years of if's and but's about Cardinals success and failure has proven that no one cares about excuses, luck, etc., etc. The results are the results.

If the Niners were good enough to be division champs last year, then they would have been division champs last year.

Don't talk about dropped passes, and Farve miracle when you get beat by the Seahawks while fighting for playoffs spots.

So, let's drop the Cardinals were lucky to win the division talk. Last I remember we won by such a margin that the Cardinals were able to "throw away" the last game of the season. That division title was rightfully earned, IMO.

To over look them is foolhardy at best.

Agreed.

That said screw the whiners.

Agreed x 2

The 9ers are a QB away from dominating this division.

http://www.49ers.com/team/roster.html

I see a lot more questions, in concerns of the Niners offense than the Cardinals.

On defense the Niners have a better front 8 but it is not a dominating advantage. The secondary, again, there are a lot of "IFs" in both secondaries.

A QB away from dominating this division ? I think not.

There is no doubt the Niner could win the division, but I think people are getting a little crazy thinking they can just run away with it.
