76ers are gauging interest in Turner

According to Marc Stein, the 76ers have called around gauging the trade value of Turner.

I took a look at trademachine and saw a couple options.

Gortat for Turner and Moultrie

Gortat and Johnson for Turner, Moultrie, and Hawes

Gortat and Dudley for Turner, Moultrie, Hawes, and pick

Rationale: Turner is a poor man's Grant Hill (in his Piston's days). He's certainly not the scorer that many thought he may be when he came out of Ohio State, but his ability to handle and distribute the ball as a small forward, make him a rare commodity. He's 24 and could be a nice building block for the future.

Moultrie is a power forward that the front office liked in last year's draft according to Gambo. There was talk of the Suns drafting him at 13 or trading back into the draft to snag him. He eventually fell to 27. He hasn't done much this season, but he could battle Morris for playing time. He's also taller (nearly 6'11" in shoes) and could play some center.

Hawes is a serviceable center with a nice shooting touch.

Gortat gives Philly a solid starting center. Bynum is slated to come back after the All Star break, but who knows how effective/motivated he will be. Bynum is also a free agent this summer. He may not resign with the 76ers, if they even want to resign him. Gortat would be under contract for another year. I really don't think Gortat is going to want to resign with the Suns after his contract expires and even if he did, his best years will be behind him before the Suns have a chance to be relevant again.

Dudley is a Doug Collins kind-of-guy. I'd hate to give him up, but if we could improve our future and acquire more assets then I may be open to it.

Johnson would be filler, but he is young and talented enough for an organization to see potential. He's also expiring.

I have been a fan of Turner and wanted to draft him when we took Earl Clark. His stock was not that high back then but he decided to stay in college for a year.

That said Turner has not met expecations in Philly and I am not sure he is worth as much as Gortat.

But I'd love to get him on the team as long as it does not cost us a lottery pick.

I'm sure this thread will soon to be relegated to the upper chamber where few go, but I'm in favor of trading Gortat. However, I'm not sure if this is the best trade available. Actually I wanted the Suns to draft Moultrie.

There are also rumors that New York has some interest in Dudley. Maybe the Suns can get Iman Shumpert now that he is healthy.

Gortat, Brown and the Memphis pick for Turner and Kwame Brown (for salary balancing purposes).

I'd love it.

I'm not so sure. I hate the idea of trading big for small especially since we're getting an incomplete player. Turner has a world of ability but he's become overly reliant on his outside game. If the trade did involve Brown I'd be slightly more interested in it. It would suggest we intend to play him mostly at the 2 spot. His mood swings on the court scare me but maybe he can grow past that.

I want to get something for Gortat while the getting is... at the very least decent. I think Turner would be an excellent return. His game has made a big leap this year, he is solid passer and good on the glass for a wing player, his outside shot is good, but it would be nice if he went at the rim more. Even so, a solid player still on his rookie deal, I'd be all over it.

I want young talent right now, regardless of position, and I dont see us getting a "big" on par with the talent Turner has by moving Gortat.

And I think athleticism and talent, especially as an team, trumps size.

I can't see any reason that the Suns would pass on Gortat for Turner. Gortat is guaranteed to be gone by the time the Suns are relevant again, and doesn't seem to be part of the solution in the meantime. Turner's a long shot but at least a possibility to be a good player down the road.

I understand the thinking in moving Gortat, but I think you could get more for him. He is a know quantity and a legit starting center. That's a rare thing in this league.

I, admittedly, know little about Turner, but if "long shot" is an appropriate evaluation--no thanks.

With all this talk about moving Gortat and Jermaine O'Neal and talent trumping size, how can we hope to become relevant again by snuffing out the Center position?

Even if the answer is, as in this year's All Star voting, that we don't distinguish between Centers and Power Forwards, we hardly have the depth to compete with the better teams in the league.

What's the plan?

Draft Cody Zeller. I am sure that what the brass wants to do. We have a thing for brothers.

Even when it comes to play by play guys.

Not really a fan of Turner, but going after him makes a lot more sense than going after Shumpert.

You could be right. But I'm suspicious that the league's opinion of Gortat instead is that he's a perpetual malcontent who is not particularly big or strong for his position, fairly solid defensively but outrageously soft on offense. There aren't that many teams in the league where he'd make a big difference. But I could be wrong, and maybe most of the covets him as much as they did when he was in Orlando, before he got over-exposed with the Suns and revealed more about himself and his game.

Having the best brother would be a welcomed change.

I usually watch the telecast (at least in part) from the opposing team and I typically hear nothing but raves about Gortat. I don't know if that means much other than the discontent with Marcin hasn't really hit the streets. He still has some pretty strong games interspersed among his weak ones and I don't think his comments have been all that bad, just too frequent, but I'd like to see us move him too. However, I don't want to give him away and I don't want any trade that even carries the appearance that we are once again being casual with draft picks.

Isn't Evan Turner a really really REALLY bad shooter?

Or did he finally learn to shoot this season?

I wish it were easy to look up a player's stats. I guess we'll never know.

The Suns are going to be looking for players still on Rookie deals for a few years, this way they still will have the flexibility to add a star if they come available. Turner is a good player, I don't think you can build around him.

Unless the Suns have the next Center on the roster I don't see them moving Gortat, unless it is for a super star. At least for another two years.

If we trade Gortat plus Dudley for Turner and Hawes (who is a young 24 yea old center with potential) would you say ok?

I don't know that it does all that much for us now or in the future but it's worth a shot. You have my permission to get it done.

Although I got a kick out of Folster's response I have to admit, if there's anyone lazier than me when it comes to looking up stats, I've yet to meet him.

Steve

What can I say, Foster nailed it for many posters. :D

He is on a hot streak today.
