Picked up something else on Fleming while looking around....last two times he's played at UofP he's gotten MVP.

It probably means nothing, but having two good games in our stadium can't hurt.

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/car...ell-fleming-oklahoma-sooners-third-round.html

"Obviously we are looking at an opportunity to address the offensive line, but you don't want to do it at the expense of other players that can bring more to your football team," General Manager Rod Graves said. "And we feel like Jamell certainly has the potential to do that.

"If we can address the offensive line at some point where it makes sense, we are certainly going to do it. That draft is not our only opportunity here. We will have opportunities leading right up to training camp."

Fleming was a two-year starter for the Sooners who made seven interceptions and deflected 24 others as a junior and senior. Two years ago, he won defensive MVP honors at the Fiesta Bowl against Connecticut when he returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown and broke up 14 other passes. This past season, he won defensive MVP honors at the Insight Bowl against Iowa by making an interception, deflecting three other passes and making seven tackles.

Obviously, he won't mind playing more games in Arizona then.

"Oh, yes. They've been awesome for me," Fleming said Friday night during a conference call with Arizona reporters.

Some scouting services had Fleming ranked inside the top 60 players available overall in this year's draft class. He wasn't expecting to go to Arizona, however.

"No, I didn't think they were going to be the team to take me," he said. "But I did know that a lot of teams did like me and could fall anywhere. I'm just glad Arizona picked me up."

I'm not sure what I feel about this guy. Don't really know much about him.
I am encouraged on how many of you seem enthusiastic about him, but I felt like CB was one of our stronger positions.
I would much rather have seen us take a OT, OG, OLB, ILB, DE or even S, and assume it was a perfect mesh of value and need.

This is kind of like last year, with Williams, it just feels like we have to keep re-addressing positions that I believed were solid.
I'm not against BPA, but this and Williams last year just kinda seem like admission that our earlier picks didn't develop.
The more I type the more I realize this pick actually has got me feeling kinda salty.

Also, I'd take it easy on all that "what genius' we are" stuff. 8-8 isn't brilliant. Williams and Housler haven't shown squat on game day. And most importantly, Kolb hasn't shown to be worth what we invested.
Pretty pessimistic, I know.
Hopefully tomorrow we can pull another Acho in one of these positions of need and I can be a happy man once again.

Great pick. Insurance for Toler, and fights Jefferson, Gay, Butler and Adams for the #3 CB spot. Has skill to contribute on special teams if he doesn't.

Any chance you think he might even beat out Toler, Rookie or not?

Some things that popped out at me from the posted highlights.

Goes for the hips and while there strips the ball naturally. A very important plus I think has been overlooked.

Great reaction time, johnny on the spot ball in the air guy.

At least on tape can blow up the bubble screen.

They both have to show they understand the system, but I would guess Toler will start out ahead due to having a year to study the playbook. Flemming is talented enough to do so however.

This. People bitched for years that we would draft for need and reach. Now that we draftbBPA everyone still ******* we don't draft for need. Lol

In all honesty, Massie seemed like BPA at the point of the pick. A few "experts" like Mayock (using the term as loose as I can) seemed to agree. So, if we really went for BPA then that's great - I hope he works out. Even better if Massie slips to us.

My personal feeling is if we can get BPA and need, then thats the perfect pick. Like others have said though, it appears there's something up with Massie...I will hold out hope for tomorrow but in the end we have to trust in the coaches and scouts.

Toler coming off a season ending injury will not be the starter...mark it down. Looks like there not to confident in Jefferson as the other guy after his play last year. This guy could come in and be in competition for a starting nod. At the least a solid backup to one of the starters. Good pick in the 3rd. Guess is he is not a Buster.

Thanks for the insight. As I've said before I can't seem to make myself watch college football so I don't have a clue as to who most of these kids are.

I like the pick. We need more CB's and S. I was hoping Brandon Taylor would make it but he was nabbed around pick 73.

I like how the draft pundits are now coming out on how Massie was overrated. There has to be medical issues or something we don't know about for him to fall. It's easy to say things and try to make yourself look good after tha fact.

How? One didn't play a down and the other one had dropsies. Now, maybe it will work out in the future, but right now, your statement couldn't be farther from the truth.

I'm not sure how to feel about this pick, simply because I don't know the prospect. We did need some secondary help, and it seems like everyone loves the pic for us, so I'm cool with it.

Maybe not in on field production yet, but the upside is there RW was looking like a #1 RB until his injury and Housler should be able to stretch the field. The Cards were still able to pick up Acho and Carter and get players that will make an immediate impact. Draft for need = Levi Brown. Draft BPA= Sam Acho

Disagree. Sure Levi Brown is the poster child for overdrafting for need but Acho was absolutely need, he just happended to turn out as one of the BPA's too (in actual production). Not really sure if he was BPA at that point (in the publication rankings), but he was for us because we had a screaming need at OLB.
I just don't get how everyone is one board that this is BPA so quickly.
Sure it's against the grain, but that doesn't make it right.
I find very few blogs, talking heads, magazines that have him rated higher than Massie. Massie, just like Acho last year, would have been BPA and greatest need. Of course, it's all speculation, I'm no expert, and Massie could have major issues or just plain suck, but the 'experts' on TV and magainzes, etc. (most) all had Massie rated higher.
So how could I know more then them? How do you? Some people might have huge insight into Massie or this kid and have good reasoning to know these differences, but I doubt many of us do.
To me, it's pretty clear that our front office just doesn't see offensive line as big of a need as most of us civilians do. Maybe they're right. Maybe our secondary, outside of Peterson really sucks, or doesn't fit Horton's scheme well, but I would have thought it was solid with Peterson, Gay, Jefferson & Toler (who I have high expectations for). I also think Mighty Mike is a great 5 option.
I guess now he's an even better 6th option!

Massie was passed over by other teams seeking O-line help who selected players having a lower rating according to said publications, pundits, etc.

I think the Cards are going BPA. It's frustrating to the fans, but long term it should pay off

+1

From what I have read, and heard, the guy is the type of DB we are installing into the Cardinals' system.

I will tell you this, the Cardinals are completely over-haulling there defensive backfield, and I MIGHT have figured out the plan, and the plan is a great one, IMO.

Can't have too many DBs. They can play safety also. He looks very talented love it.

BPA got to love it!

Anyone who doesn't think that cornerback was a need wasn't following the Arizona Cardinals very closely. Greg Toler is a former 4th round pick from a teeny tiny program who hasn't spent any time in the system. A.J. Jefferson is hot garbage. William Gay was the worst starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers last year.

You can never have too many corners, and we didn't have enough even before Greg Toler got hurt last year. This makes it less likely that Mike Adams ever sees the football field except on special teams. That in itself is a good thing.

toler had a whole year to study the playbook..he showed he can be a starter..he was our best corner before we draft peterson.he is good in man covarage and is a great tackler..he fit perfect the horton system..i think they will play with 3 corner peterson toler gay..2 safety and and hibryd corner/satety like flemming cause adrian wilson will line up near to washington

I think people are more surprised than upset with the pick because, as I said earlier, Fleming wasn't discussed much here. Like Ryan Williams last year he just wasn't a topic of discussion much on ASFN.

I know I overlooked him because I was skipping over guys with 2nd round rankings. That and its 9:42 CDT and OU still sucs. :p

Easy Duck! :D

Of course I'm a total homer, but everytime I watched this kid, I always thought he would be playing on Sundays. He was pretty domininating. Always in good position, and really reacted well to the ball when it was in the air.

Its hard to say exactly how his skills will translate to the next level, but I wouldn't be surprised if this season he ends up starting next to peterson.

They need to utilize him like that...and they have already from what I saw.

So a 3-2-6.

Also a 3-3-5 with another rush backer or two in the mix.

All on 2-3rd and longs obviously.
