87th Annual Oscars

Neil Patrick Harris to host the Oscars, take over world

http://www.azcentral.com/story/billgoodykoontz/2014/10/15/neil-patrick-harris-oscar-host/17320805/

What's left?

After successful stints hosting the Tony Awards and the Emmy Awards, gigs so successful social media jokingly cried, "Let him host everything," now Neil Patrick Harris practically is. Variety reported Wednesday that Harris will host the Academy Awards, and Harris made his own announcement in the most Neil Patrick Harris way imaginable - a funny video in which he says, on the phone, "I'm in," then turns to a bucket list ("Rap with Snopp Dog," "Win Tony," "Saw woman in half") and checks off the last item on the list: "Host the Oscars."

Couple travesties here:

1) Lego Movie not even being nominated

2) No non-whites being nominated in ANY of the acting categories

What a BORING lineup -- 2015's massive movie slate is going to be such a breath of fresh air. I love Budapest, but this just has all the excitement of watching clothes dry.

Whiplash should easily win in Best Adapted Screenplay (even though it should really be in Best Original Screenplay).

and yes... that is one underwhelming list of Oscar Nominations. A really, really rough year all around for movies, both in box office and quality, IMO.

Who would you have not nominated and who would you have replaced them with?

I think the most glaring omission is David Oyelowo, who plays Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma. Many thought he could actually win Best Actor, let alone just get nominated.

I also hear (although I haven't seen the movie) that Rosario Dawson and Chris Rock are very good in Top Five. Chadwick Boseman in Get On Up. Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Beyond the Lights. Tessa Thompson in Dear White People.

As for who I would replace--hard to say, although Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones, Bradley Cooper, Robert Duvall, and Mark Ruffalo could be debatable.

Then again, I thought Helen Mirren deserved a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Hundred-Foot Journey, so what do I know?

There was a big Oscar buzz about Jennifer Aniston for her leading actress role in Cake, but she did not get nominated.

Personally, I think the Best Picture and Best Actor awards will be a battle between American Sniper and The Imitation Game.

Could be a sweep in both categories by either of those films.

Just a feeling.

Lego movie was released in early 2014 right? I think that weighs on a lot of award shows. It was a fantastic movie and should for sure be a nomination in best animated movie.

As far as non whites, I don't think you should sprinkle in color just to sprinkle in color. Whomever deserves it should be voted.

I dont watch a ton of movies so no comment on who was elected vs who wasnt but just to be appaled at it not having any color shouldnt be relevant.

Grand Budapest was an early year movie as well, but that didn't stop it from getting 9 nominations.

I don't get all the love for Budapest. It was fun but that's about it. Completely over-rated at this point.

I have to agree. The bride and I enjoyed it..... It's a good flick.... but we did not walk out saying, "Wow!!! That'll win some Oscars!!!"

We loved it and I think it deserves the love.

The LEGO Movie was completely shafted though. Maybe they just didn't know what to make of it?

David Oyelowo not nominated? Wow. Look I am not for nominating someone just to say you are diverse but to think that there are no performances worthy of an Oscar from someone of color? Freaking ridiculous.
