As much as I'd like to see Bradley Cooper win, Steve Carell was absolutely brilliant in Foxcatcher. Didn't even know it was him. As for Selma, sorry to say, it just wasn't that great a movie. Good, not great and if wins it will be for PC reasons not that it's the best of the group. Personally I think it's a toss up between American Sniper and The Imitation Game. For best actress, it's hard to ignore Rosemund Pike's performance in Gone Girl. She played batcrap crazy like she really was batcrap crazy. Best supporting actor, Robert Duvall by a landslide. Supporting actress, hard to pick so my sentimental pick is Streep. Director, Eastwood's snub aside, it's a toss up between Innaritu and Miller although it wouldn't surprise me to see Wes Anderson steal it. I'm looking forward to this.

Nice job, you pretty much nailed it, except actor in a leader role. That was one of the few I actually had right.


So they "re-released" Birdman here in Southern Oregon after it got nominated and had it in our only real "multiplex" theater here in town. Prior to that, they only had it in what I would call an "artsy" theater. (We had to drive to Eugene to see Grand Budapest when it opened, but that's another story).

Anyway, so my son saw Birdman a few weeks ago in the "artsy" theater and had been raving about it. So Friday night, we were all going to go see it, but than saw they were showing the Oscar nominated short films, so decided to go see that instead.

All of the live action short films were amazing if you get a chance to see them, don't miss the chance. I thought it was pretty awesome that they put all of them together and put them in the theater and will be looking for that again nest year. There was only about 7 of us in the theater, but hey what the heck.

I thought Boyhood should have won the Editing category. I mean where the hell do you begin editing a movie shot over a twelve year period? Let alone make it coherent knowing the footage spans that period of time.

And I loved the acceptance speech by Graham Moore who won for best adapted screenplay. That took some serious balls to mention his own suicide attempt when he was a teenager. Didn't mean to pounce on you like that. You're a good guy. Just a lot on my mind. Streep being my sentimental pick because, as hard as this is to believe, she's been around forever and she still knocks it out of the park. And my picks aren't what I thought what would happen, just what I hoped would happen.
